I´m still interested in your thoughts on Tianeptine and regenerating the hippocampus. Plasticity pretty, please

See multiple threads on mind and muscle forum as well as older threads on the imminst.org supplement/nootropic forum (recently the folks who believe no supps work have kinda taken over immisnt). I posted a PDF you can download in one of the M & M threads.
Oh and needless to say there is no human data on hippocampus regeneration (IRBs frown on autopsying healthy people to get the data) |

I pulled up a whole bunch of citations; but I didn't have time to look them over. Just verified that it would be an interesting topic...
Not keen on the legit use of the drug (anti-depressant). Need to verify if the effective dosage for brain regeneration is different from that of behavioral modification.. Also need to read up on the QSARs and pharmacokinetics. Polite nod and greetings to ScottL. |

ScottL : Read the stuff on M2 already including your posts. Interesting stuff.
Trouble : I am getting an MRI in about 6 weeks, however they are actually looking at the hypothalamus - can the hippocampus volume be seen on the same scan ? It may be a stupid question but I know nothing about the MRIs ... |

This gets back to this misconceived idea of Onley's Lesions. Jesu, you can knock out whole clusters of tiny cells throughout an entire brain tissue locus, and they won't even show up on scanning or tranmission electron micrographs, never mind an MRI. Probably the worst case scenarios for damage would be extreme drug use, autism, and overt degenerative diseases, in terms of gene expression deficit/chemical modifications.
What are your physicians looking for, in terms of damage? Tumors? Plaque (MS. Parkinsons, orther dymylination diseases)? |

Hippocampal can be seen, but VOLUME?..unless you have seizures this might not be looked at qualitatively (and then only left vs right) and short of research studies no one is going to look at volume like you are thinking. A short course of tianeptine or perhaps two might be worth a shot (or not depending on your goals), but it ain't a panacea. |
