Alpha glycerylphosphorylcholine
Figured this forum would attract more attention than the supplement and such forum, so I figured I would give this a go. I have seen you recommend this before trouble (searching the 1fast400 forums), however it is pretty expensive. Unfortunately wikipedia came up empty on the search for Alpha GPC.
I did find this... 1: Horm Metab Res. 1992 Mar;24(3):119-21. Links alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine administration increases the GH responses to GHRH of young and elderly subjects.Ceda GP, Ceresini G, Denti L, Marzani G, Piovani E, Banchini A, Tarditi E, Valenti G. Chair of Gerontology and Geriatrics, University of Parma, Italy. Growth hormone (GH) secretion is decreased during aging in humans and in rodents. This decrease may be due to increased hypothalamic somatostatin release, which is inhibited by cholinergic agonists, or to decreased secretion of GHRH. Alpha-glyceryl-phosphorylcholine (alpha-GFC) is a putative acetylcholine precursor used in the treatment of cognitive disorders in the elderly. In order to learn what effect alpha-GFC had on GH secretion, GH-release hormone (GHRH) was given to young and old human volunteers, with or without the addition of alpha-GFC. GH secretion was greater in the younger subjects than in the old individuals, and both groups had a greater GH response to the GHRH+alpha-GFC than to GHRH alone. The potentiating effect of alpha-GFC on GH secretion was more pronounced in the elderly subjects. These findings confirm the observation that aged individuals respond less well to GHRH than younger subjects, and provides further evidence that increased cholinergic tone enhances GH release. PMID: 1577400 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] What is your take on this trouble? Do you feel that it is worth the price? And for GH/recovery, would this really be any benefit or would adding an extra dose of GABA PWO be just as good. |

There are a few articles on this site if you'd bother to search for it
![]() I've used it. Didn't notice any effects and I was taking insane amounts by mistake. Others absolutly love it... Though I was never blown away by pira. It had an effect all be it minimal. |

There's more info in the supplement forum. It was a hot supplement for a while. |

Google: 30 sec search, search terms: alpha GPC and glutamate
Results: Medline webpage Its an HPA activator. Just lovely, exactly what the non-mesomorphs need (being sarcastic here). ONLY WORKS if you have enough methylation action, good B6, B12, B2. Most here do not meet that condition. This sucker makes stress effects worse in many of us. Some growth hormone activator... If you have insufficient P5P, you don't make GABA. If you have insufficient P5P, you also don't the necessary synergy betwen alpha GPC and sam-e. But you do get lotsa GABA counteracting glutamate release. Hence, the mixed reaction to this compound. Like PC, but unlike choline (which is the precursor to dopamine and serotonin as well as the norepi and eip couple), too and you cause autocrine problems: dizziness nausa, tiredness, blah blah blah (see the section on adverse effects, citation page). I found this out the hard way. No more alpha-GPC for me; it made all of my methylation and transsulfuration pathway issues MUCH worse.

BJ mentioned most of that in one of his posts (I don't think he knew how far ahead he was, or even knew exactally what the reasoning was). But a lot of that was mentioned non the less.
I just felt like I was burning cash. No negative sides or anything. Still got a few grams laying around here unused. Might play wiht it some other time. |
