How would you train someone who never done any sports?
Hey people, how would you train a person thats never done any kind of sports on a regular basis (such as soccer or bball or stuff like that) and wants to start working out (fat loss and muscle gain)? Would you GPP his ass for half a year with no weight room whatsoever or would you start right in with compound exercises with very low volume and work up from there? I was asked once to put sth down, it looked something like this:
workout A Benchpress Squat Cable Flys Shoulder cycle (no weight) Treadmill workout B Press Deadlift Lat-Pulldowns Face-Pulls Treadmill this was all done with close to no weight and emphasis on form. Is that too demanding? (that guy could do maybe three pushups and one pull up with good form) what would you recommend to newcomers in the weight room? Compound movements yes or no? Focus on a bodybuilding routine first to establish something to work with? GPP? Volume? thx! Last edited by Shputnick; 08-07-2012 at 02:39 PM. Reason: spelling mistake |

all depends on the individual, imitations, injuries, equipment available, etc...
but what you listed is a nice starting point to see they are gonna stick with it. |

what I basically wanted to know whether it is fine to start of with such exercises right away. I was afraid that it is too much for that guy (no injuries, all equipment you need, perfect setting so to speak) and that I should have made him do bodyweight stuff and hillsprints and loaded carrys and all that first.

I was a lazy ass couch potato for 3years, literally did nothing and prior to that I never did any sports. Spent most of my time sleeping and sitting, only exercise was maybeeee walking into a bar, but I'd get a taxi there and a taxi anywhere else I wanted to go.
Anyway, I started out on EXMGQ "extended" routine as soon as I decided to get off my ass and it did me real good. Strength wise and health. Last edited by Potato; 08-07-2012 at 07:07 PM. |
