Bruised shins and crushed thumbs

Decided to start a new log, going to keep it updated with the good and the bad.

My time with John has finished, but its only temporary. As soon as money gets better I will be signing up with him again. My time under John has been the best, most insane progress yet in every way. You do what he says, you get results, its as easy as that, or was for me, you've got to put the work in though. One of the best thing's I've learnt is that if you really want something in life, you have to put the work in to get it. Aswell as sucess in the gym, I've had a huge amount of sucess outside the gym and will be starting my chemistry degree in september. Better late than never haha. I'll miss talking to him on skype, but its not for long.

Money is low at the moment so my diet consists of as much as possible of whatever I can get my hands on, far from perfect but its keeping me from turning into a super skinny stick.

Like John says, Keep training.

Squat with belt

+5kg on last week and felt easier

125kg (275lb) x5 – not hard
125 x5 – hardest set
125 x5 – easiest set
125 x5 – a bit harder
125 x5 – easier than previous set

I held my breath for as many reps as I could because I always seem to lose tightness if I breath. The hardest set was set 2 and I didn’t hold my breath for any, easiest was set 3 and I held my breath for the first 3 reps. Can’t tell from this angle, but knees are being pushed out as wide as possible and its not much more than shoulder width. Also managed to stop going so low, thought I’d gone high on all these until I watched it back. Set 3 video:

SSB box slightly above parallel with belt

70 x3
100 x3
110 x3
125 x3
130 x3
135 x3
135 (297lb) + 6kg (13lb) chain x3

Not bothered if these make me squat more or not, it’s fun and makes me work hard and gets me used to heavier weight. The reason for all the sets is I just add weight until I can’t get 3 reps or it feels like I’m dying on the last one, which I did with the last set. 10kg more than last week and added chains this week. Will get video next week

SSB + bands squat no belt

25kg (bar) +green bands x3
50kg + green bands x3
70kg + green bands x5
90kg + green bands x5
90kg (198lb) + 6kg (13lb) chain + green bands x5, 5

Will video the setup for these last week, had run out of space on my phone. Again not bothered if this makes my squat go up or not, fun to do and some kind of muscles are getting worked

Shrugs
50kg x15,15

Since I started doing more shrugs I got more of a shelf for the bar squatting so I see no reason to stop

Ab wheel

10,11

Thanks. They're addidas power pro's I think, the same same ones heavyset uses.

For anyone interested this is what my training days look like at the moment:

Bench day is this http://www.ironaddicts.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=31211 with assistance from the exmgq extended version

Squat day is the same as above, but 5x5 and adding 5kg a week. Assistance is just stuff I though would be fun and makes me work hard

Deadlift day is this http://muscleandbrawn.com/benedikt-m...dlift-routine/
and not because I think that doing that will instantly make me as strong as benedikt magnusson, just saw it and thought it looked like a decent set up
switched out the jeff jet method thing in it for block pulls because I don't have training partners to pull rack pins out

and assistance from exmgq extended version

Thanks man!

Was meant to bench yesterday but I got home from work and fell asleep, woke up and felt exhausted, ate some food and went back to bed lol

Felt just as tired and sore today, but lifted anyway because I won't have much oppurtunity any other day

My arms are really sore for some reason, not my actual elbow like in the past, just th muscles arround them really aching so I just did my benching and then some other lighter movements that didn't cause any pain

Bench2.5kg more than last week
77.5kg (170.5lb) x3,3,3,3,3 - all quite easy, just really hurt my forearms and triceps on the way down, no pain on the way up
Ass slightly off bench, but I don't care since I'm not competing for a while. I've changed my form a bit fo a bigger arch and as I get more flexible my ass will get back on the bench

Video of sets 2 and 3, because they felt the easiest

did DB flies because a big chest is a big advantage when hunting for pussy

10kg dbs x15,15,15,15 - the weight was easy but it didn't hurt my achy bits, to make up for being easy I paused at the bottom of each rep for a couple of seconds

band pushdowns x100, only got to about 80

front raises - light
10kg x10,10

side raises
7kg x15,15 - each arm

band facepuls x 20,20

Not sure what's up with my arms, dont think its squat related since my grip is almost at the collars and most of my squatting was done with a SSB which doesnt tax my arms at all. WIll ice n stuff and see what happens

Hot girls are just one of the side effects we got to deal with if we want to lift weights

Today's lifting was alrite, forearms are causing me trouble, but only on anything that involves my arms not being straight so deadlifts are fine

Deadlifts
180kg (396lb) x5 - with belt up to rep 4, got sick of wearing it and felt like it ws slowing me down
180kg x5 - no belt and all the reps felt better

seemed like a good weight to start from, was quite easy, seccond set was nearly speed pull speed

deficits for speeeed
120kg (264lb) x4,4,4,4,4

more deficits

110kg x8,8

quads sore after them

Banded dimels - seen them in mrcharybrowns log, though i'd give them a try

110kg + green bands x10+ cant be botherd counting on the video
100kg + green bands, different set up so the bands had way more tension x5, couldnt get last rep

Had to use straps because my thumbs couldnt take any more, going to lower the weight next week but use the same band set up as the seccond set and try and get 10

Weighted pullups or whichever they are
chain + 20kg plate x4,4

underhand rows
60kg x10,10 - very controled no momentum used

shrugs x15,15,15 - mainly for grip

All lifts after the deadlift variations hurt my foreamrs, probably shouldt have done them but ive got 3 days off now so i'll see what happens

Didn’t expect too much from today, my 10th day of 11 straight days of work feeling tired and didn’t have much time to eat today, but I had a strong session

Squats + 5kg on last week, this my old 5rm is 130 but can’t be bothered looking it up, it’s either this or 132.5 so no matter what next week will be a PR

130kg (286lb) x5 – was hard because my shorts wouldn’t let me push my knees out
130 x5 – easier, sorted my shorts out
130 x5 - hard
130 x5 - harder
130 x5 – easier but still hard. Didn’t feel at any point on any set that I wouldn’t be able to complete what I wanted though. Video is of set 3 because that’s the only set I got where the video wasn’t tilted because my phone wasn’t straight.

SSB box squat inch lower this week

70kg x3
90kg x3
110kg x3
130kg x3
140kg (308lb) x3 last rep absolutely destroyed me

Not going to do these anymore. I seem to do an odd movement with my feet when I get onto the box (bench) and I don’t like it and can’t be bothered figuring out why. I’m only really doing them to feel more weight on my back so i’m going to swap them for pin squats I think, not sure if I’ll use the ssb or regular bar. Thinking regular bar and see how it affects my elbows and arms as I bench the day after.

Banded ssb squats, no belt

70kg + 2x green bands. Video of How I do them, I have the bands as close to the rack pins as I can in an attempt to get as much tension as possible out of them
http://youtu.be/PEqv11qHncU

110kg + 2x green bands x3
120kg + 2x green bands (264lb) x3 – Felt 100x harder than it looks on video, no idea what the bands add but it feels way harder with them. Never ssb squatted more than 115 (without a box) so suppose this is some kind of PR. video cut out for this, video below is 110kg set

Felt like I had more in me so thought I’d give front squats a go as I’ve seen a lot of people and I like to follow the crowd, no idea how bad my form is but they made my left bicep hurt

60kg x5
90kg x3 – not the greatest video. Think my biggest problem is my upper back rounding over which seems to be making my arms work hard to not let the bar drop onto the floor, but I don’t really know.
