If you could have a new trainee read one article...

What would it be? Someone fairly new to working out, doesn't know a whole lot about fitness, but is looking to get bigger and stronger. What one article or piece of literature would you direct them to first?

If I were you, I would spent some time reading this entire section.

It's a wealth of information.

It's not for me. I have a friend who is trying to get into fitness and I'd like to point him in the right direction so he doesn't fall victim to the mass garbage that's out there. I'd like to recommend him at least one solid foundational read before he gets overwhelmed with all the information that's available on the net.

Here's a compilation of some of the most helpful articles on the board, there's much more to read, but this should be a good start. For more specific advice from the pro guys here, try to ask your friend what kind of goal does he have.

Yea I'm very familiar with that sticky as I'm a frequent lurker on this board. But thank you for that.

I don't know that there is just one article I would recommend. Some of the stuff I used to think was garbage actually works pretty well. If I had to pick one though it would probably be Wendler's 5/3/1. Not necessarily because of the routine, but because of Wendler's whole philosophy. The part that stands out the most is his recommendation to just lift for 10 years, and then you'll have a built in BS detector. I like how he says not to overanalyze everything and just work hard and lift heavy.

Can you get him to lift with somebody who can look after him? Yourself maybe? Then you don't need any articles, just let him lift with somebody who knows his stuff.

That way he/she would never even think of the word overtraining, let alone be scared of it!!!
