Lumbar spine protruding disk... and working out

Hey guys and gals,

I have just been diagnosed with a minor protruding disk in my lower back. Now i have known something has been wrong with my back for while now... finally got MRI to confirm this. Anyway it isn't to painful.. extending my legs while sitting creates the most pain. The only lift i have not been able to really complete is leg extensions and good mornings.

I have recently been hitting PR's on the deadlift and squat. Completing these movements correctly hasn't hurt my back anymore.. but on the other hand i have had no improvement in my lower back.

Just wondering if any one on here has suffered a protruding disk and what you suggest i try to help it. I am starting physio on Tuesday and so far doctors haven't mentioned that i should stop lifting.

Any information or personal experiences you guys have would be great! Its just such an annoyance.

My lower two disks are as flat as a wafer and occasionally protrude. Mine was caused from improper heavy squats and deads, also tons of military presses. Today I stay away from heavy spinal compression lifts. That's the only way I've found to keep the lower back pain away. When one decides to protrude it hurts like hell. It's hard to even tie my shoes then.
Found all this out through MRI. I was put on rehab for 60 days and told not to ever lift again.
I've been told at this stage only solution is spinal fusion or disk replacement. Both of which the Doc said he would only do if I couldn't walk anymore.
I'd also love to hear some other experiences, solutions or ideas.

Protruding = bulging discs?

If so, I was diagnosed with a couple bulging discs in my cervical spine several years ago. Doctor I had at the time was useless & offered no direction...so I decided to just go back to the gym & get stronger. Guess they healed on their own as they haven't held me back since getting consistent in the gym.

technical definition of protrusion is different. the "goo" inside the disc actually comes out in protrusions. Not so with bulging discs.
