Strength Equals Size -- Tom's "lift that weight" Log

Hey guys, i'm starting this cause I really need to focus on logging more, i have been for the past month and need to keep it up, so hopefully this'll help me be more diligent on this.

I'm training low volume for power with influence from Ex's routine and SPBR with a little of my own taste and me still figuring out what my body likes and doesn't. I'm also focusing on the Kansas State PL meet in July, so I'm really working on depth on squats, pause on bench, and anything to help my dl.

A little about me first though! I'm currently 19 (20 on april 25th) and enrolled at a CC as a sophomore. I attended KU right out of high school and didn't do so hot, not because I partied (I'm not too big into that) but because I just didn't focus enough. So I'm getting my grades up and paying a lot less money right now! I started lifting in high school when I started my junior year, i enrolled in a strength/weight class where we pretty much just did whatever we wanted. I went from 6' and 130lbs to 150 mainly just because I grew, not in muscle. I found Iron Addicts during my senior year and haven't looked back since! I LOVE watching and coaching basketball, as well as playing/coaching/watching soccer, I got a few offers from small schools to play, but decided not to play. I miss playing and competing more than anything now and still debating on if I want to play for my school in the fall, I'll keep you all filled in though.

My current stats on April 10th, 2011 are:
Squat - 405 breaking parallel
Bench - 275 paused/305 no pause
Dead - 445 bad form (around 420ish with good form)

183lbs
6'2"
DOB- 4/25/91 (if you do the math, I'm 19 for another 2 weeks)

I just bought two sets of bands (monster-mini, and a lighter one, I can't remember off the top of my head) and ordered my PL belt as well as wrist and knee wraps from inzer, but they haven't come in yet. So I'll be getting used to those in this log too, trying new lifts and figuring a lot out. Hopefully I'll get some vid's in here too when I can.

LTFW! Words to live by!

PL meets are a great time - what federation is sanctioning your meet?

Keep an eye on your inzer equipment and the delivery times. Sometimes you have to remind inzer that you're waiting on your gear if you ordered directly from them online. Other times they deliver fairly quickly.

I compete with USAPL, it's really the only one in my area so I don't have much choice. But my first meet was a BLAST! There were only about 10 guys total competing, but it was very cool environment.

Thanks for the heads up with Inzer, I ordered it off their website a week and a half ago and still no shipping notification. It says on there that it may take up to two weeks to custom-build the stuff so I'm giving them till thursday till I give them a piece of mind My bright red belt must be what is taking so long

April 9th--

My friend and I chipped in and bought some bands and they came in friday, we wanted to try them out so we incorporated them A LOT in this workout haha!

Deep Paused Squats:
warm ups w/bands
bar x 8
135 x 8
225 x 6
*removed bands
315x5 1 second pause
315x5 2 second pause

Band-assisted GHR Superman
3 sets of 10

Banded Good Mornings
120dbs w/mini-monster band
x6
x6
x8

Just started experimenting with the bands at this point, seeing what I could put them on and what would work and what not

Kroc Rows w/band
80x8
95x17 Right hand - 95x20 Left hand

Curls w/band
Fail.

w/out band:
35x8
35x8
35x8

Face Pulls w/bands
Monster-mini and light band
x10
x10

Ab work with bands just figuring out what would work

Went a REALLY long time in the gym, an hour and a half I think. I was excited about my new toys though! I certainly feel it today though, but I figured out what I could and couldn't do

Good to see this log, you've got some strong lifts and they're only going to get better. Keep it up

Nice! Looking forward to following a USAPL log. Do you have to become a USAPL member to set state records?

ROCK CHALK _______!

Even with my constructive criticism you did awesome on the zercher challenge and I will be watching this log. You lift at home or you at a gym?

As for ab work with a band give decline sit ups with a band a shot. I have done them and they are really nice. Standing ab pull downs are good too. When compared they feel completely different IMO.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure you can get a "day pass" sort of deal where you are just a member for the day at the meets here. I'm not sure if it would vary anywhere else. Does anyone know?

Thanks T.K and MJC, glad to have some followers! I've been lurking these boards for two years now and only have 80 posts, time for me to step things up and start interacting!

KGM- Thanks for the idea, I didn't even think about the decline bench as an option! But I lift at a smaller gym in my town. They're very lenient on everything so I can pretty much train however I want. I just don't have an actual GHR machine, or DB's over 120, but that hasn't caused me much grief besides for Kroc rows so far. I'd LOVE a home gym someday, but I can't afford that yet

Interesting...very curious. Are you a member or did you do the day pass? I am thinking about doing a push pull and I think both lifts would come out to be a state record but for my first meet I don't think I'll be buying a membership or anything quite yet.
