My GF sent me to the local Wegmans just to check out the vitamix demo in January. The demo of the vitamix spoke to the optimizer in me in a big way. I use to juice but it was a big PIA to clean where as the vita is super easy to clean. I even had multiple strangers coming up to me during the demo telling how they got one years ago and how they love theirs. Demo.. heh It was more like an ambush. I ended up buying one and don't regret it in the least. I've incorporated it into my daily use ever since and have at least one smoothie (for breakfast) just about every day.

Ever since I added these to my regimen my body has been a lot happier health wise. A good part of it could be the added fiber but I'm sure the nutrients don't hurt either.

This might help others who like to optimize as well and have a vitamix. Currently what I typically do is roughly around once a month I stop at wegmans or the local farmers market and get a bunch of kale, spinach, apples, carrots, a pineapple, blueberries, broccoli, oranges, etc. Then when I get home I break out my zip lock quart size baggies, do lots of veggie washing/sorting and fill the baggies half way with greens, then add a variety of other fruits and veggies to them to top them off. Then I freeze them and have my drinks ready to eat for the month (last time I made 27 baggies in one clip). Then when I want a drink, I just empty a baggie, add water, protein powder (experimenting with gemma and rice protein atm from true nutrition) and blend for a quick healthy meal.

PS: I've found adding raw unsweetened coconut flakes is pretty darn delicious. I add it to my drinks often.

Here is some great info on blending vs juicing I found very informative/helpful.

there is a blender Montel Williams advertises called the health master. iv had one of these for a year now im not sure if it is a tough as the vitamix but it is a beast .you can make soup in this unit as well heates it up and everything .if you have ever eaten kale it isnt the best tasting stuff and the smoothies are perfect for keeping your body alkaline . i also take a double serving of vitagreens every morning first thing on an empty stomach with a large glass of water to jump start proper absorbtion of all the nutrients i will be consuming during the day .the smoothies are another way to get kids to drink up their vegtables when they dont like eating them off their plate .

I saved the link to this thread and recently purchased one of these blenders. It's a blend tech. Basically the same thing as a vitamix. Have any of you discovered any other recipes that haven't been listed? Does the taste of items like broccoli really come thru?

I got the omniblender which is a made in china blender with specs similar to vitamix or blendtec - 3hp motor, uses a bearing, grinds rocks to dust, etc. I love it to pieces and use it daily. My daily shake has been:

"green sludge"
4oz spinach
2 carrots
3 stalks celery
6oz broccoli - big handful or so
1cup mixed berries

I don't mind bitter foods so I don't have to worry about sweetening up something like this. This is an incredibly easy way to get my daily intake of veggies and I have noticed a huge improvement in terms of digestion and general well-being.

I've seen them at Walmart, do they blend well? It would be nice if they were a viable option to the more expensive blendtechs and vitamix.

I have a serious problem chocking down foods like celery, broccoli, etc. I'd rather eat my own puke then put those specific veggies in my mouth. Lol. I was very happy to see that a mountain of Spinach in a green smoothie is literally undetectable when blended with berries and/or bananas. I will see if a small amount of broccoli Can be added without me spewing it back up!

I do agree this is an excellent way to get more fruits and veggies in a days eating. I have noticed an increase in horrendous gas since upping my veggies. I'm fine with it but my wife's not.

broccoli is always going to have that edge to it regardless... im sure if you start by adding a bit and then working up it wont be so bad.. cauliflower has similar benefits but i'm not a big fan of the taste. celery and berries actually go together really well.

Gents, bumping an old (but awesome) thread here. I was window shopping a vitamix and this thread pushed me over the edge. Got a refurb 5200 headed my way for a pretty decent price with free shipping coupon.

Thanks for bumping. Definately going to purchase a blender now to get my spinach in, which I struggle with. Can't afford a VITAMIX though, as the cheapest model here(UK) is over $650!
