Deadlift question?
My pulling from the floor sucks. I can hit 165kg for 8 but cant budge 180 off the floor.
As soon as I pull my hips shoot up. Any tips to help?

First fix your form. You may have to lower the weight a LOT to do that.
Once your form is holding, or in conjunction with working on it, try speed pulls 6 x 1, and deficit deads. Also start pausing your box squats. IA

Defecit deads worked wonders for my dl. I remember posting here and at redpoint with the same problem almost giving up on deadlifting. For me its just not pulling from the floor often that works the best for me, most likely due to being a taller lifter ( 6'5'').

Is the only difference with a deficit dead that you are standing elevated?
How high should u be above the ground? Is a plate good enough? I've seen videos of plates being used, and then 6-8" blocks of wood.... |

2-3 inches will feel like a mile. Thick plates are fine.

I'm curious how you can do 165kg for 8 reps and not even get 180 kg off the floor. As IA said, form may be an issue and if you posted a vid I would bet someone would see something that needs to be corrected. Do you wear straps when doing deads?
