Today I was at the gym and I saw a big ass natural bodybuilder doing this strange exercise. He does not compete but he is in his 50ies. Probably at 240-250.
He told me it is called the Schuermy T Press. It is basically a T-row format but instead of pulling (working your back) you go way down and do it deadlift style. i told him I didn t believe him when he said that it works more of the body and core than the squat and the deadlift. He told me to try it and I was SHOCKED! I loaded 220 lbs there and did a set of 5. A wider stace works my hamstrings and my entire back so much more than the deadlift and a closer leg stance works my quads and lower back much more than the squat. Also if you use a bar with a bit wider grip, you get much more back work and trap work than when you deadlift. I did this 5 x 5 today and it killed my day. I could not even do pull ups becaue my entire body was drained. So I went talk to that man again (he has a badass name like Wulffgang). He said that for years he had a training cycle that had an overhead press exercise, a chest compounds exercise and some variation of this Schuermy T Press. Do you guys think It is all bullshit or could this exercise really be hitting more the body than the 80 % the deadlift does? |

You realize you are doing about the exact same thing as a deadlift, but your probably at a worse mechanical position and therefore can't do as much weight.
What you described for the squat part sounds like a variation of a hack squat.

ya we do those all the time, its basically a stiff-legged deadlift with a tbar row, we call um recordbreakers. They definately DO NOT replace the squat and deadlift.

The only lift that touches squats and deadlifts are trap bar deadlifts--everything else is a very long distance third place.
TBD's are fine replacements though and actually work more muscle than regular deads or squats. They don't always carry-over well to squats or deads though. IA

Maybe it worked for him...great. But , like everyone has said, that will NEVER replace squats or deads......ever.
If you are tired of squatting and deadlifting, then get over it, because they are the bread of butter of getting bigger and stronger.

the question was supposed to say ? instead of :
So it gave the impression I was tired of squatting and deadlifting.. but it was a general thing for the people reading the name of the thread. Sounds good. Maybe my body was just shocked because I am not used to the exercise. I will try again though. I was curious about this idea because I usually squat and deadlift 3 x 5 on the same day. And it is pretty taxing. So maybe this lift could replace one. But i guess not ' thanks for the input guys. |

How often do you squat and deadlift on the same day?

I follow that simple strength based routine. But instead of doing a back another back thickness exercise, I deadlift. The lifts have been going up by 5 lbs per workout.
oh and to answer the question. Its an aba bab split. So I squat and deadlift on the same day 3 times every 2 weeks. Side question: If i do my chest on A days but on the B day I feel like i want to sweat a little more. Is it ok to do a small chest exercise if you feel your chest is already recovered? |
