Full body routines 3 times a week

What are your thoughts on 3 day a week full body routines with something like 3 compounds to work the entire body and 4 other exercises that work the smaller body parts (calve, abs,Bis,tri's grip work)

i ask because i never seen a full body routine in any of your top 10 top 5 workout routines threads

i would assume that since they didn't make his top 10 cut, which is pretty inclusive, then he doesn't care much for them. then again, im not wesley, so ill let him chime in.

For pure beginners that can't generate much intensity, they can be the bomb, For truly gifted lifters, they also work very well. But unless there is a LOT of intensity modulation, they beat up Joe averege mid level lifter pretty bad.

i see what you saying and i consider myself a "joe average mid level lifter" so when ill look for a full body workout wit "intensity modulation"

by instensity modulation you mean something like

M
5x5 ramp to max set of 5
W
3x5 at 90 percent of mondays 5 rep set
F
3x8

basicly madcow 5x5 type routine?

Correct, that will work, but I really don't believe in the need to squat 3 x a week.

After training a few months I went to 3x a week fullbody (still a beginner) I made decent progress on it. I was alternating deads and squats each workout. I ended up tweaking my lower back a bit. Probably I didn't have too good form but I stopped training that way afterwards. Haven't had that problem since.

I did them as a beginner for around 4 months or so, eventually the lower body workouts caught up to me and I couldn't keep up with it.

Good gains when I first started, but I could have trained 7 days a week back then and probably made the same progress.

Nowadays if I did full body 3x a week, I would never be able to walk.

ever

I've thought about doing a twice-a-week full-body routine:

Day 1:
incline dumbell press
Squat
Row

Day 2:
Bench/dip
Trap-bar deads
pull-down

Actually I'd do that 1 on 2 off.

MANimal - thats the same type of routine I'm using, full-body with 1 on 2 off, and I've gotten great results from it. Mine is a little more messy and has 3 different workouts, but its generally the same thing.
