Talk about genetics... here is Arnold at 16 years old...
And directly quoted from his encyclopedia...

The way they see it, one bodybuilder is bigger than another simply because he or she has been training longer. But the reality is that not everybody gains muscle at the same rate and not everyone has the talent to create the same level of development.
Your individual genetics have a lot to do with how your body will respond to training. For example, I started training at fifteen, and the photos taken after only a year reveal the beginnings of the physique that won me seven Mr. Olympia titles. Every month or two I gained 1/2 inch on my arms, so people told me right away, "You should be a bodydbuilder."

At 16 he was already better than most guys will ever be.
Genetics
Genetics
Genetics
And it is very popular dogma in some circles that genetics don't mean that much--morons.

If that were average genetics, you'd want more still.
I got guys at my school that look like they've been bodybuilding for years and doing gear and have been doing nothing but TRACK AND FIELD with seldom weight training with BWE's...talk about genetics.

You are all absolutely right. Genetics will determine how much can physically be gained, the controllable factors will determine how close to your genetic limit you can reach. Here's a chart I did for a project in school a while ago. It represents the controllable factors vs. genetics factors and how genes will basically control to what extent the other factors can work.

I hate to nit-pick but that's not an exponential graph, that's a linear increase.
