5/3/1

So I just did my first day of 5/3/1 today using the Triumvirate sets. This is what you're supposed to go for after your Military Press progression sets. How the hell can you handle all this volume? I had to do chair dips and assisted banded chins just to get through it all and my compound lift wasn't that heavy to begin with.

dips
15 ×
15 ×
15 ×
15 ×
15 ×
chin-ups
10 ×
10 ×
10 ×
10 ×
10 ×

It is suppose to be light for most people. The volume should not be overly taxing and if it is you need to find a way to reduce the weight eg assisted chins and decline neutral db press until you can handle real dips and chins.

ran 5/3/1 for 2 years found when I over did the acc. work my main-lifts suffered . work with Boring but Big for several month and tried 5 x 10 sets and it killed me . had more success with 3 x 8 or 4 x 8 format . think if you do a search theres a lengthly discussion on the subject .

I wish i would have known all of this a few years ago. I'd be huge by now if I didn't waste all that time with the ultra high volume crap.

Jim Wendler himself says the accessory work doesn't matter compared to the main lift. He even said sometimes he would do no accessory work at all. so really, as long as your big 3-4 are going up it doesn't matter what you do afterwards. Might as well experiment around, find things that help you get bigger/stronger and throw away what doesn't

I usually like to stay in the 25-40rep range for my assistance work.

Example

3x10,4x8,5x5,4x6,etc...

Forget yesterday and forget tomorrow.

You can't have yesterday back, and tomorrow never really comes.

You only have now, and it is all you will ever have.

Make it count.
