I ditched the commercial gym long ago because of these reasons.
No chalk, a notice saying that you couldn't use the chin bar on the power rack for health and safety reasons ha ha. This was a golds gym as well. I emailed the manager to cancel my membership and told him that joe gold would be embarrassed to put his name to this shit then asked if he even knew who joe gold was. He never replied

My garage may be cramped but I can choose the music, spit swear and fart and strut around like a big man in a small pond.

That's really what it's all about anyway

I meant what I said, but you have a point. I appreciate you calling me out on my curmudgeonry.

I'm pretty sure I'm the most annoying asshole in my gym to most of the other users.

I train in the morning period when the Real Housewives of Marin County are trying to get in their daily dose of kettlebell swings and I'll often tie up their favorite corner of the gym to do bench rows or floor presses.. I strew my gym bag, wraps and belts around in a defensive perimeter and splash a line of chalk on the floor to keep the Botox vampires from crossing.

at least the worst thing I have to deal with is entitled former hippies and gangs of illegals tag teaming equipment.. the sister gyms in the actual city of SF are scary, scary places where you wear a ballcap and avoid eye contact and the locker room if humanly possible.

You seem pretty normal to me. A successful workout at a commercial gym can be as simple as not having to say a word to anyone else.

I get this every morning that Im in. I do the same thing with my gym bag and other gear. Theres always someone who comes in and eyes where youre at and stares because they need that corner to stretch or do jumping jacks or some other crap. And they never ask how long youll be. Just seems easier to stare and then run to the corner when you leave.
