Lol I just laughed, it took me by surprise that he would be so judgmental without me saying more then just asking about the price of a week. A kid that works there grabbed me before I left and said the manager tends to turn around a lot of guys around that actually lift. Then he let me know about a gym down the street. The owner of the gym I ended up at wasn't surprised by my story and said he owes the guy over there big time for sending him all the new members.

Planet Fitness pisses me off with that "lunk alarm" crap. I get that they're trying to make it a comfortable environment for people just getting going, but come on. It's only a "Judgment Free Zone" if you fit their criteria. Otherwise, they judge away.

Is pretty laughable, because they are the most judgmental gym around.

File this under "Know Your Bullshit."

You simply can't lump individuals into categories like that. Are there assholes in lifting? Sure. But are there assholes in spin/yoga/pilates/running/biking/racquetball/swimming?

PF--and this is what I dislike about this ad campaign--is trying to profit by creating prejudice where there doesn't need to be any. What they're doing is a milder version of a classic fear tactic for crowd manipulation, much like: "All Muslims are terrorists" or "All liberals are socialists" or "All Tea Party members are ignorant gun-toting racists."

And the bottom line is always: "If you don't stand with us then you stand with the enemy." Meanwhile, you've been distracted from what's being done to your wallet.

This is why I work out at a friends house, there are holes in the Sheetrock, rust on some bars and for some reason porn on the walls. But it doesn't have anyone telling me what to do or how to do it. Plus the thought of quarter squats makes me mad

Spoke with the owner today...told him that I'm not "slamming" the weights off the ground. I'm just doing a deadlift. He said to do my best to control it and leave it at that.

He said that what the gym really needs is a deadlift platform but the gym apparently can't justify paying for one given how few people there deadlift.

...

If you have the skills and plan on being there awhile, offer to supply the labor if he supplies the materials. While you are building it, you may as well add band attachments. Everybody wins
