George Carlin, "The American Dream"
Old clip, but it sums up current events nicely.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acLW1vFO-2Q Think of the BP oil spill. The categorical exclusion given to BP by the government is a great example of how the government is in the back pocket of corporate interests. Obama, Bush, McCain, it doesn't matter who the figurehead is they are all equally shit. The one thing I disagree his opinion that corporations own us. They try to influence decisions, but ultimately everyone is sovereign. For example I was in the grocery store and I saw a can of lemonade, the art on the can was a lemon tree on a hill with the sun shining in the background. On the back under the ingredients there were compounds I couldn't even pronounce. The lemonade isn't really natural, it is chemically enhanced taste good so that it will sell. Without your money these corporations will wither away. What can you live without that would have a net negative impact on corporations? If you need something buy locally, sure it is more expensive, but consolation can be found in the fact that a large corporation isn't getting your money. Thoughts?

What makes all large coporations inherently bad?
The only real monopoly in the US is held by the government. They have a monopoly on the use of force, counterfieting, and theft (taxation). If a corporation told you that you had to give them more money every year or be put in prison through the use of armed forces everyone would cry out. Why do we allow the federal government to do this to us? BTW, money going into buisness creates wealth for us all. Think of henry ford. He became filthy rich. Not by robbing people but by raising the standard of living for all of america. Surely he would have been regulated out of buisness the way things are nowadays. |
