When I do high reps squatting I started to encounter a new problem ( for me)
The bar slides down my back slowly and I am terminating the set because I am afraid to loose the bar. is it only a grip problem? or form ? As the weight I am using for 20 reps squats (or trying to get those 20) is much lower then when I do triples. And I have no such problem when I do squat heavy. |

Grip the bar with a full grip (no thumbless, since you are having issues), squeeze it together and pull your elbows down under the bar. If you need to, move your grip out a little wider. Also, make certain that you are driving with your head as soon as you initiate the concentric motion. Don't be afraid to put some chalk on your back, if your gym allows it.

wish i could chalk up. the only place i can use chalk is in my home gym. they now put a sign about it on the cage. i think you got the point about the elbow positioning , i think my elbows move too much to the front as I am getting harder and higher reps.

bro dont grip the bar tightly. you gonna get shoulder and elbow probs sooner or later. most guys/gals who hold the bar tightly start trying to push the bar up when they fatigue or hit a heavy weight. so you can see where the prob can occur.
i rest my hands on the bar. they just laying there. i can squat with no hands if i need to. my hands are out as wide as they can go. even with a squat bar. are you low bar squatting or high bar squatting? if you low bar then do a high bar for your sets of 20. does your bar have center knurling? if not get one. |

I do squeeze the bar , and i do the 20 with low bar.
you just hit the problem spot on. guess i did not notice it myself ( that i hold the bar very tightly) , but i asked my son who spoted me last time. will be fixed. you can still teach old dogg ( 40 years old , squating for lots of years) new tricks , thanks so much. |

if you squatting 275 for 20 (an example), low bar squatting as well and holding on to the bar for dear life in essense you wind up doing a behind the neck military press with 275, cept just the bottom few inches. which is the worst place to press from. tsk tsk tsk. |
