Been training for over a year and a half (Novice/Intermediate stats) New here
This is my first post. Over the past year and a half i have become obsessed with lifting weights. I weigh 155 lbs now and when i first started i only weighed 120. I have trained the wrong way a lot. I started Starting Strength back in August 2011 to gain back old strength that decreased due to being sick all summer.
My stats are (in lbs): Bench Press: 190-200x1 (145x11 the other day havn't maxed in a while) Squat: 240x1 Deadlift: Best was 285x1 Overhead Press: a very weak 95-100 I went back to my old ways of training after a couple months of SS due to stalling a couple times while even gaining weight and eating a lot so i decided to do stupid things like this past week i have no idea why i decided to do one of the typical 4 day splits only people on juice should be doing. And I am hopping right off of it wanting to get on a routine that will help me gain a lot of strength. I saw the Simple Power Based routine and am interested. However I was going to attempt this full body routine http://www.triedandtruefitness.com/s...chin-ups/1441/ Marvin Eder was a powerful and big guy way ahead of his time back in 1940. This fullbody routine that was one of things he did has periodization and it's the same lifts everyday 3 days that you workout a week. Which would probably be better? Try em both. Wesley had a version of his routine for hardgainers I believe. So you have options. This Marvin Edar, if his lifts are true, hard to believe by looking at him, would put him as a genetic gift, with probably advanced recovery. Not a lot of people can squat 3 times a week. But theres no deads, so as a newb you would probably be ok. Also note it has scheduled deloads. I say run run each for 3 or 4 months and compare. If your not progressing on the Edar routine, and your diet is in check, then your probably overtraining. My 2 cents.

yeah i know that's what i was thinking. I was thinking benching 3x8 for me 3x a week could be overtraining also but probably only if I'm going to failure. So maybe I'll only go to failure on the last set once or twice a week like once on Monday and once on Friday. Maybe to mix it up i could sub deads in for squats on Wednesdays but instead of doing 3x8 only do 1-2x8. I'm still interested in the Simple Power based program so I have 2 days to decide. My bis are still really sore from being stupid and killing them with a dozen sets on Tuesday of this week.
thanks for the reply |

thanks man and i sure will....Now while at work i realized I'd be overtraining on the Marvin Eder program even if i didn't go to failure. I'm gonna start Simple Power based program and run it for at least half a year. I hope my bis will be fine by Monday its been 4 days and they're still sore
