IA,

In your experience, are rest-pause sets really more effective than straight sets for strength? Powerlifters and people who train for strength very rarely advocate that kind of set. DC and 20-reps squats are the only systems I know of that use this technique.

DC's rational is to provide as much stimulation as possible in one set as possible using rep ranges that are hypertrophy specific. No, it is not the best system for strength. The answer to that question is simple. If you want maximal strength gains inthe shortest possible time you will do low rep, low volume work the the way, or similiar to the way powerlifters train.

Now, all that said, DC's system is a great system that works extremely well for a large percentage of the lifting populous.

WSB, conventional powerlifting style routines, and even many hardgainer style routines have enough low rep work for maximal strength gains, yet enough higher rep work for hypertrophy. The best balance IMO after using literally every popular protocol under the sun for myself and countless training clients are modified WSB routines. WSB for bodybuilders is an AWESOME way to build size and strength NOW!

Ok, so rest-pauses are good for strength..

What about a mix of DC and WSB. Have you ever tried something like that?
