View Full Version : Gpp?
Hey guys!
I am lifting 3 times/week (push/pull/legs), and I have been thinking about incorporating some GPP work.
I'll buy a sled, but until I buy it, i'm thinking about doing stuff like pushups, situps, jumping, bw squats, etc.
Will it hinder my recovery?
I would do it once or twice a week, but I'm still thinking how to set it up...

Yes, those things are a bad idea as they have an eccentric component to them. Pulling the sled does NOT and is one of the many reasons it works so well. Ride your bike up hills if you want some non DOMS producing GPP work.

What about climbing stairs for GPP, does it alter recovery??

Stair are great if you can take the elavator down--lol. In fact I have a trainee that does just that. Remember eccentric work = DOMS = decreased recovery.

my sled is coming from westside this week . I'm on a timed carb diet, 2 days lifting w/pwo carbs only, 1 carbup day, and 4 days zero carbs(only green veggies)w/ 30 min cardio. I know from previous posts that you may or may not have a protein/simple sugar pwo shake after hit cardio, depending on the intensity. I'm replacing 1 day of cardio w/sled pulling. Would those of you who pull the sled recommend carbs after or can I have protein/fat afterwards like my other cardio days(which is what I would like to do)? possibly move the sled pulling to my 1 carbup day?

Coupla Qs
what about stair machines?
And what about elitpicals. I red some where bout putting it on level 20 and doing 100 strides. I have gradually worked up to 15 mins at 15 following the GPP protocal in the stickies.
at 15 I can keep a good pace, any thoughts on upping the resistance and slowing the pace down?
and for climbing stairs and taking the elevator. just body weight, or put some weight in a back pack?

What about Burpees? I just started doing these. Damn about 5min and I am breathing hard.
in my olympic lifting class, we do football style conditioning, especially a lot of those agility footwork drills on the ladder things, for around 10 minutes or so. hows that?

I want to bump these questions.

far as i know, bodyweight-only is cardio. add weight (ie, a backpack), and it becomes GPP.
what's with all the machines, anyway? just go push a vehicle, drag something heavy, split and stack wood for the elderly couple down the road or shovel their driveway, or dig a hole (for whatever reason), or do someone's roof, or move furniture - there's any number of ways to get GPP in without having to get technological about it.
the benefit is that those form of GPP have way better carryover and work your body systems more efficiently than the machines do. do them as a volunteer for seniors, the disabled, animals, etc, and you gain added karma points (airmiles for the afterlife).

If you live anywhere that gets snow, try rolling up a big ass snowball (like you're building a snowman) and pushing that around for a while.
I did this a couple of weeks ago as a little change of pace (and my snowballs were already premade by the kids at the local jr. high :D)...........i was totally bagged after about 5 minutes.
The point is, like threenorns stated............just do SOMETHING!

Sorry to bring this back, but does pushing your car across the parking lot have any eccentric portions that develop DOMS? I would like to be doing this before I build my sled in the meantime, but not if it's counter-productive. I'm also guessing I shouldn't run with the car, but try and push it while walking and sustain that as much as possible?
