My shadow's
Shedding skin and
I've been picking
Scabs again.
I'm down
Digging through
My old muscles
Looking for a clue.
I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own confused
And insecure delusions
For a piece to cross me over
Or a word to guide me in.
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
I wanna know what I've been hiding in
My shadow.
Change is coming through my shadow.
My shadow's shedding skin
I've been picking
My scabs again.
I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own chaotic
And insecure delusions.
I wanna feel the change consume me,
Feel the outside turning in.
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
Cleansing I've endured within
My shadow
Change is coming.
Now is my time.
Listen to my muscle memory.
Contemplate what I've been clinging to.
Forty-six and two ahead of me.
I choose to live and to
Grow, take and give and to
Move, learn and love and to
Cry, kill and die and to
Be paranoid and to
Lie, hate and fear and to
Do what it takes to move through.
I choose to live and to
Lie, kill and give and to
Die, learn and love and to
Do what it takes to step through.
See my shadow changing,
Stretching up and over me.
Soften this old armor.
Hoping I can clear the way
By stepping through my shadow,
Coming out the other side.
Step into the shadow.
Forty six and two are just ahead of me.

Definitely their finest hour. Lateralus was somewhat of a disappointment, IMO. Hopefully they can rebound with their next offering.

Please, tell me why Lateralus was such a dissapointment?!? That is one of the most ridiculous statements. Lateralus is without a doubt an amazing album. The complexity of that album is unreal. Maynard and Co. figured in many ancient math problems into songs and the album. Put it on and just listen.

Considering it a dissappointment doesn't make it a bad album. It's a very good album. But after the long-ass wait and the high standards based on the Aenima masterpiece, I was disappointed. As a drummer myself, Danny Carey's drumming on Lateralus is as awesome, if not better than ever on it, but musically, I consider it inferior to Aenima. That's not really a knock.

Hmm... in the Tool community, Tool raised their music to another level with Lateralus and fans are waiting patiently for the next- which will be delayed because Maynard apparently rediscovered Jesus and plans for the band is put on hold because of this. That is hard to believe. Anyways, Lateralus is going to be hard to beat but I've read that their next album is going to be harder and heavier- where you like Aenima. The next cd will be this way because of touring with some Europe Heavy Metal and Hardcore bands and I guess these bands influenced all members of Tool. BTW, I am not trying to be a dick.

I thought you were shitting me when you said that. Given his past statements, hardly seems possible. However, I checked that out at the Toolshed - I'll believe it when I see it posted somewhere else given the date it was posted (April 1) and that sites propensity for coming up with new ways of carrying on their annual tradition.

I'd certainly welcome a heavier album though I didn't have a problem with Lateralus' slightly mellower vibe.

When I seen that statement I immediately emailed Kabir(sp?) and he said, it was true. There was no joking. I don't know but it is really crazy.

If that's for real, that's about as unexpected a turn of events as possible. I don't have a problem with it but if true, he's gonna have a lot of 'splaining to do to his Maker:
Opiate:
Choices always were a problem for you.
What you need is someone strong to guide you.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow,
what you need is someone strong to use you...
like me,
like me.
If you want to get your soul to heaven,
trust in me.
Don't judge or question.
You are broken now,
but faith can heal you.
Just do everything I tell you to do.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow.
Let me lay my holy hand upon you.
My God's will
becomes me.
When he speaks out,
he speaks through me.
He has needs
like I do.
We both want
to rape you.
Jesus Christ, why don't you come save my life.
Open my eyes and blind me with your light
and your lies.
Sober:
There's a shadow just behind me,
shrouding every breath I take,
making every promise empty,
pointing every finger at me.
Waiting like a stalking butler
who upon the finger rests.
Murder now the path called "must we"
just before the son has come.
Jesus, won't you fucking whistle
something but the past and done?
Why can't we not be sober?
I just want to start this over.
Why can't we drink forever.
I just want to start things over.
I am just a worthless liar.
I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you.
Trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you.
I will chew it up and leave,
I will work to elevate you
just enough to bring you down.
Trust me.
Mother Mary won't you whisper
something but what's past and done.
Trust me.
I want what I want.

Lateralus was a great album but not nearly as listener friendly as their previous releases.
It'll be interesting to see they'll put out next.

This doesn't definitively answer the question but:

TOOL's April Fool's Prank Has Fans Worried - Apr. 5, 2005
Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL gave its fans a shock on April Fool's Day when a posting at the band's web site, Toolband.com, reported that singer Maynard James Keenan was not recording with the band because he had "found Jesus." Keenan himself emailed the webmaster of TOOL fan site ToolShed.down.net, saying, "I thought it only fair to inform you first, before you hear it second- or third-hand. Some recent events have led me to the rediscovery of Jesus. TOOL will need to take the back seat. This may come as a shock. I just thought you should know considering all the support you given us over the years."
While most fans took the news as an April Fool's prank, some on various TOOL message boards were honestly worried that Keenan had quit TOOL.
The band is known for posting jokes on its site every year at this time. But it has yet to officially confirm that the Keenan story, which seems like a takeoff on guitarist Brian "Head" Welch's recent decision to leave KORN for the same reason, is actually a fake. TOOL is working on its next album in Los Angeles...we hope.

Where, what math problems? Not saying there are not there....I just haven't noticed.

What do Santa, the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, and a computer geek who gets laid have in common?
They don't exist.
Yes, I have a few "recordings" (using the term loosely) under my belt - mostly demos, one slightly more professional recording that was pressed as a CD. Check it out here:

Yes, those are ballbusting friends writing those reviews.
There are even the lyrics to my finest 3 recorded minutes posted on this site. Should be very difficult for you to figure which song that is.

A piece of shit Slingerland (from the 80s when they were made in Japan, as opposed to the very good vintage Slingerlands made in the USA, or the reissues made in the 90s). I since purchased a Tama Starclassic Maple kit but haven't recorded shit with it. Ironically, I effectively went into retirement shortly after getting this "dream" kit.

Tama makes a bad ass set. I kinda quit playing with a band once i got my equipment too. I have a smaller apartment with a 100watt all tube half stack, 6 guitars, and a shit ton of effects lying around :) i just can't part with any of it.
you don't mess around with fruitly loops or audition do you?

The Slingerland was the first kit I had - chrome finish which looked cool under the lights. I used and abused it for 10 years or so. My cymbals and hardware were always top notch but not the drums. I just got fed up with the BS associated with playing in a band, particularly in NYC. It's not the first time I "retired" either. I'm always up for jamming and could be coaxed out of retirement for the right situation - until I wig out and quit again.

Good news, bad news: The good news is that Maynard and Tool are recording a new album. The bad news is Maynard is going to burn in a fiery abyss of eternal damnation and brimstone.
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=35135
TOOL's official web site, ToolBand.com, has been updated with the following message:
"Good news, April Fool's fans. The writing and recording is back under way. When approached for comment on his recent encounter with the Son of God, Maynard said, 'That guy's a punk!'
"As it turns out, Maynard was out 'location scouting' near the Fourth Street bridge in downtown Los Angeles when he 'found Jesus.'
"'Turns out he was here the whole time, and not that difficult to find if you know where to look,' Maynard reported. Apparently Jesus offered him the position of campaign manager for his new line of 'Holier Than Thou' sparkling holy water, which Maynard, of course, accepted. What wasn't obvious was that this guy is a total drunk. It's an occupational hazard. Every time our Lord goes to get a glass of water, it transforms into a generic grocery store Merlot. Because the alcoholic is the Son of God and an all-knowing being, he knew of Maynard's extensive interest in collecting wine. So he went to work trying to get his lips on it. Maynard caught J.C. in his cellar transforming his precious wine collection into urine, then pissing it into the empty 'sparkling holy water' bottles for the eventual sale to all those people who bought, read, and embraced 'The Celestine Prophecy'. Tragic.
"'Truth be told,' Maynard confessed, 'I wasn't feeling top notch when I found him. The evening prior to the day in question I had over-indulged in a series of bad Molotov shrimp cocktails with a side of Makers Mark and twin strippers. So after an entire night of G.I. Blowouts, hot/cold sweats, and blurred vision, it's very possible that the guy I met wasn't even Jesus at all. For all I know, it was Willem Dafoe.'"
