First workout.

maxed out for 3rep max on deads. got 270, i could maybe get 275 but 5 lbs less first max wont make much difference in the long run.

Diet

I just need to lower my fat intake some. It was unexpectedly higher, will be making adjustments.

that bench is absolutely crazy. 245lbs, at 16, with a 39 inch chest. You must have some super crazy neural strength in your chest

Texas Savage
03-03-2010, 08:53 AM
ehh maybe. I definitely was not strong to start off with. But once i got going it shot up and i worked harder then everyone around me. IM hoping to see 265 end of next month.

Thanks.

5+ from last week.

Texas Savage
03-06-2010, 03:33 PM
Wow. Just had a great workout.

Decline Bench: 235x3
+10 from last week and i honestly think i could have gotten 240 or 245. Im already looking forward to the next decline bench workout.

and all the accessory lifts have gone up.

Diet note: about to start cutting out all milk intake, i get 2 cups a day on average. I figure that should help with leaning out some.

And lastly, forearms and arms are looking leaner.

Nice benching man. I just recently went from 1-2% milk to nonfat milk. Would be interested to see if dropping the milk intake helps you lean out. How much protein are you getting (if you can post)?

Texas Savage
03-09-2010, 09:57 AM
Ill let you know on this log if the milk helps in a few weeks. If anything, itll be nice getting to eat an extra 25carbs.

And im getting a lot of protein. Not sure if im allowed to say, but its more then ive ever eaten.

Im benching tomorrow, hoping to hit 225x5 flat bench. Thats about the highest i got to, and when i hit that(x6), my max was 275.

Will keep posting. Supps should be arriving today or tomorrow.

Creatine mono
Micellar Casein
Now Adam Multi
Now Adam Fish oil

i just ran out of whey completely so im hoping these come in soon.

Not a fan of hotdogs.

I usually put Worchester sauce and steak seasoning, or season salt, and sometimes this jelly spread that has hardly any carbs but makes it taste real good.

Tomorrow's goal: 225x5 on flat bench. Will post results.

Texas Savage

Whoo! Hell yeah!

Hit 225x5 today, up ten lbs from last week and i think i had one more rep in me.

Two prior sets were 215x5, 215x5, that last rep of 215 was pretty hard, i was debating whether to stick with 215 or up it a little bit. im glad i did though, i had a better spotter for my last set, good lift off, and bam.

Im excited.

So far

Deadliftx3 +5
benchx5 +10
Decline Benchx3 +10( aiming for another ten lb next decline workout)
Box Squats: im doing them, and i did the same weight with a lower box and no rocking.

Also had three people tell me i looked leaner/skinnier.

All is good. Motivation is skyhigh at the moment. Time to go eat my porkchops.

I took the SAT today.

i think i did really well on it, and i havent had any sort of prep work classes/tutoring which ill be starting soon. next test is june 5th i think. Im hoping to get mid 1400's on a 1600 scale. Which i definitely think is possible. I answered all except for 3 math questions and i did them all right, im assuming, the math is easy for me. Vocab/analysis is harder but with some tutoring and once i get a vocab list from my brother in law(he teaches these classes) i should be able to score well.

my gpa is alright but not great. I didnt really try at all freshman year but since then ive had all A's except spanish last year.

In state options:

University of Texas
Texas A&M

Out of state

Emory
Washington lee

If i go out of state ill be going to a private school because its the same cost as outof state public. And those two are "reach" schools.

lucidity0101

I had ONE question wrong on the SAT Math and got a 720-740 (my memory blows). Getting above 700 is TOUGH. Good job man. I'm pretty sure you'll get into most schools (even your reach) with your stats. I wish my high school GPA was better, but looks like you'll be fine. Good luck, you're in better shape than you can even imagine.

Thanks! My weighted gpa is a 99.

Sad thing is, im still ranked 175 out of 620 in my class. So i cant get automatic acception to UT because im not top 8 percent. If i went to one of the other highschools in the worse part of town id probably be top 5% with a 99 weighted. im pretty sure i missed three questions on the math. I answered every question. If i can just learn a few things ill be good.

Workout today::
Deadlifts 285x3. I meant to put 290 on the bar because thats what my previous 1rep max was but just forgot to put on the cookies while i was getting pumped up for the set.

Progression thus far. Going into fourth week with Wes.

Bench: 215x5-225x5
Decline:225x3-235x3
Deadlift:290(1rep) - 285x3

On monday im hoping to hit 245 or 250 on decline for 3. I maxed 245 on flat bench at the start of this program.

Texas Savage
03-15-2010, 10:10 AM
Its Spring Break for me, so i took a few days off of dieting strictly and logging, ate a few favorite meals of mine, now its back to work. Im almost tired of all the bad food. Also got some more inspiration to get leaner sooner, no more cheating.

Going to gym in an hour.

Goal:
Decline 245x3, and depending on how that feels i may go one extra set.
^^hitting that will be a 20lb increase in one month. Wow.

Texas Savage
03-15-2010, 01:44 PM
Hit 245x3 on Decline.

20+ lbs in a month.

two more workouts this week and then next week ill be maxing.

Goals:
Bench-265
Squat-225x3. Not a huge increase and i may nto increase at all, but my depth is better and form is better, which i would see as an improvement.
Deadlift- 305 at least 315 is a reach but would be awesome to pull 3 plates for a first time. 315 would be plus 25.

Rows: 205x5, havent done any bent over rows, some db, but i still feel much stronger off my deadlifts. this would be 20+ increase for 5repmax.

Thanks. Bench has always been natural for me.

Squats, im getting there on form, ect.

Deadlifts, my form is now better and im more explosive, getting my hips more involved.

Making great gains though and im leaner in my arms, forearms, and now shoulders.

Had a good workout this morning.

Box squats 155x6. These are up 20 lbs in the past week, mostly because i fixed my form some, i wasnt popping my hips at all and that really helped me get off the box and be more explosive. Next phase doesnt include this but i may ask Wes to continue them now that i know what im doing.

Bench on friday, going for 235x5. That would be awesome but we'll see.

maxes next week.
Goal maxes:
bench-265(a reach) but is ten lbs off my three month goal and its only the first month!!)
Dead-315 ( +25)
Squat- 225(better form) these will shoot up now that im doing it all right. This could easily be higher, my hamstrings have gotten a lot stronger.
Rows-205x5, +20lbs.

Not necessarily on topic with lifting and diet but important id say as far as motivation goes.

Got myself a girl in the works. Spring break was this week, we hung out a couple times, ect. Some more motivation to stay strict to the diet and lean out. I know she'll be looking good come summer, so i gotta make sure i am. Went out to eat tonight, at a place i normally would have gotten 2 huge buttermilk chocolate chip pecan pancakes, but instead got migas, eggs, cheese, tomatos, and peppers. Tasted great and a whole lot healthier.

Thanks!

I placed second at districts. This was regionals, i was the lowest seed coming in 13-13. but i was like 9-2 this semester.

First match: returning state champ who won again.
second match: this kid i beat 17-1. He had a 23-5 record. Hes from the valley which is like the border and corpus chrisi area. Wheras im central texas, Austin, San antonio, College Station.

The competition we have is much greater. So i was 13-13, him 23-5. But i beat him 17-1.

Third match i get returning third placer in state who had to injury default out of his second match.

State next year.

Pulled 315!!!

felt good to get that three plates.

my goal going in was 265. I hit 260, then put 270 on, and hit it.

I didnt think i could get 280 but went ahead and tried it, and if i had just gotten past my sticking point. Damn. still very happy with 270. Thats exactly 150% of my bodyweight.

goal for this next month is to hit 285. i think its fully possible.

25 pound gain this month on deadlift and 25 pound gain on bench.

Sad to see James go. Too bad about his knee.

The villians certainly are dominating the game so far. Will be interesting to see how the merge plays out.

Yep he was one of my favorites, the biggest flop of the show has been colby by far. When coach beats you in a physical challenge somethings wrong.

Hah no kidding. IM sad to see james go. But he never was very smart and he definitely would not have won.

I think the winner of the entire thing will be either, Russel, or Boston Rob. I dont think any of the heros could. And yeah Colby has been a huge dud so far. I was expecting more.

Coach is crazy but makes the show more interesting.

Squats tonight:
205x3. Not too much but im getting there. first time to squat without a box in a month. also im focusing on sinking my hips straight back, not favoring my right hip. Weight wasnt too bad and im looking forward to thse shooting up.

Edit: I get my SAT results april 1st. nervous as hell, but ill be taking it again early june. Hoping to get a 1250 at least this time and then study vocab and learn all the SAT strategy to bring it up to a 1400.

math:650
reading:650

and thats without any prep work at all. ive started studying vocab and stuff. And i have my broinlaw tutoring me for the test.

Goal1400 minimum.
Aiming to hit a 1450. Gonna be a stretch.

3x3 bench in about an hour. Will edit for results.

Edit:

225x3, 240x3, 245x3
Goal next bench session: 250x3
not bad, it was a long workout, more volume then usual. Looking forward to deads on sunday. Sets of ten on deads. Whew. 225x10 wouldbe nice.

Texas Savage
04-02-2010, 01:10 AM
Im looking leaner. Forearms are looking much more defined and look bigger. Shoulders are looking a little more separated.

Obliques are looking a little more defined. I have fairly strong obliques from wrestling a lot. They always seem to be sore after a tournament from the weird positions and everything. They are starting to stand out more.

Stomach is looking flatter, no abs yet, but im hoping that by the end of this month i may be able to see one or two.

Abs by summer is the goal. Never had them before and i have decent mass in my shoulders, arms, and back.

Weight is the same. I think ive gained some mass in legs and just through growth.

ill be going out of town tomorrow for easter. Going to our lakehouse, gonna get some quality fishing time in. not going to be concerned too much with diet. Ill just make to hit protein requirements and bring my supps with me.

last year in one weekend, my dad and i kept about 35 sandbass each about 3-5lbs. and several hitting about 6-7. We probably caught closer to 60 but threw a lot back. We usually fry it up, this year ill be grilling, sauteing.
Birthday is next tuesday, ill turn 17. Pretty excited.

Got back from a weekend of fishing and relaxing. Quite nice.

Deads today:
275x5, 225x10, 235x10.

Goal next workout:
285x5, 235x10, 245x10.

End of month goals:
Deads: 295x5, 310x3, 325 max.
Bench: 265x3, 285 max
squat: 255x3, 275 max

Reasonable goals, maybe a bit on the high side, but all achievable. Also im hoping to see some improvements in fat loss. and Abs by summer.

I would be glad to hit 285by5, my first max was 290, so nearly 5 repping that would be sweet.

back to work.

Birthday is tomorrow, turning 17. So im having a cheat meal for lunch.

Last week: 205x3
Today: 225x3, and it wasnt too hard.

Goal for next week is 245x3

Looking to make big gains here and hit 275x3 at the end of the month. That would be sweet.

and other PR's:

Pulldown abs: gone up a whole lot, ive done other ab training the past month, hanging leg raises, weighted, machine abs. These have gone up a whole lot.

BB rows: 175x8. i need to get straps for sure though, its just hard to hold the weight, not a back issue.

bench on saturday: hoping to hit 255x3.

to Billster: I had already hit 275 about a year ago, but was much heavier. I had just finished wrestling season when i hit 245, strength gains came back well and i was training with IA, huge part of it.

Squats will probably go up 40-50lbs this month.

Todays workout:

Bench 3x3, 225, 240, 250(+5) from last week. And it wasnt too bad, i think i can get 255 next week, maybe even 260x3.

other Prs: Incline went up 10lbs. All accessory lifts went up today. Going great.

Workout
School-major physics test
yardwork to raise money for a mission trip.

Squatting tomorrow, im aiming to get 245 or 255 by 3. we will see.

240x3, i probably could have gotten more.

But i need to work on my flexibility so i can get lower. Having trouble getting those last few inches to break parallel. Thats what ill be concentrating on.

Other then that, my squat by 3 has gone up 35lbs in the past two weeks. and 25 overall.

Next week i want to get 245 a tad bit deeper, then the next week 250 even deeper.
'
Tournament tomorrow for freestyle and grecoroman wrestling. i should be able to get some videos.

Tournament today:

in greco i had three matches.
Win
Win
Loss
The guy i lost to is on our team and is an all american and commited to Indiana university to wrestle, not too concerned about that loss.

Freestyle:
win
loss
loss

my head just wasnt in it. One of the guys was better then me in freestyle so no worries, the other, i watched the video of my match and i clearly was not pinned. Close, but no. And there were only about 5 seconds left in the period. just stupid.

Overall this was my first tournament for freestyle and greco, so i was happy, i had several good throws. my back and neck are aching though, ill be icing.

Whew.

Not feeling too good at the moment. Im not used to the aches and pains of wrestling tournaments.

Neck is hurting, feels like i pinched a nerve.
Lower back is sore and achy, a move called a seatbelt, basically you pull up on their front shoulders, hyperextending their back until they give in. Guy did it to me today.

Knee is just a little sore.

Lower abs, right above my crotch from pushing my hips down into the mat.

Shoulders from being torqued around, ect.

Got some bruises on my face, cuts on hands and face from getting crossfaced.

Not feeling so hot. Gonna sleep well tonight.

Update:

Lower back is still hurting some, no deads for me this week, not heavy at least.

Monday morning i was still sore but went ahead and worked out. not my best day, only workout so far with Wes that my compound movement has not increased.

Tonight ill be doing some accessory work and do some light GM's and SLDL to help my back.

Will be posting videos from tournament soon, once i install a cd to let me upload them from my camera.

other news:

Asked a girl to prom! She said yes.
Competing in a game called assassin, winner gets about 400$.
AP tests are in about two weeks, ill be taking: Physics, US history, Psychology, English and Human Geography.

this past weekend i had SAT tutoring for about 6 hours, long day but i think it helped a ton and now i just have to take like 6 practice tests before June 5th. Hoping to get a 1400/1600.

No serious injuries like that.

strained mcl a couple times, hyperextended knee and arm 2x each. and pinched nerve in neck a few times. Other then that, not much.

Workout today:

Squats: 230x3- much better. less weight, but i hit parallel which was a good feeling.
leg press weight is increasing as well.

Texas Savage

Had a good workout today!

255x3 on bench. A PR. 2 weeks ago i hit 245x3, last week i had a rough week and only hit 240x3. This week i tripled 255.

All my accessorys today went up substantially on top of that.

Other news: getting leaner i think/hope?

i have AP testing next week, tests that get me college hours, ill be taking five.

And almost our entire grade is playing this game called assassin. basically you and a partner get another team as your target every week, you have one week to eliminate them by shooting them with a nerf gun outside of school, their work and their house. 100 teams total.

Winning team splits a thousand bucks. so 500 each, that is over a year's worth of training with Wes. So lets just say, im into it.

Deadlifts today.

285x5
235x10
245x10

Good workout, especially coming off my lower pain. Felt great today, no pain. And i adjusted my form a tad bit, and it felt much smoother, and felt right.

The 285x5 was difficult.
the 235x10 was hard.
the 245x10 was... whew...

Maxes next week.
Goals are:
At least ----Reach
Bench: 275 285
Squat:235x3 240x3
Dead:320 330

My diet was perfect this week, and it shows, definitely feel better, stronger, and more energetic, also adjusted to make it easier.

Been studying for about 5 hours so far tonight, and one more to go.

Im noticing either more mass in my legs or leaner, either way is good for me.

Triceps are looking leaner.

I can feel more separation in my abs, but am still not seeing it. Obliques and the 'V' are more noticable, just waiting for that day i look in the mirror and see abs.

Bench maxing on wednesday, excited and nervous.

Texas Savage

Bench maxed today.

I hit 265 easy.
I hit 275 medium(previous max was 270)
i hit 280 and it wasnt too bad.

My goal was to get 280 going in, i hit that, and it felt good, so i decided to go for 290, but missed. Went down to 285 and missed.

Felt kinda stupid afterwards, i should have gotten the 285 and been good. Oh well.

Ten pound gain this month on bench, and i think ill be able to hit 290 at the end of this month.

the past two months with Wesley: 245-280. 35pounds in 2 months.

Also when starting with Wes, my three month goal for bench was 275. Well, looks like ill be beating that by a good 15 pounds.

And deadlifts on saturday i think, im looking for a bigtime pull.

My shoulder is bugging me quite bad.

During wrestling practice on thursday i got hiptossed. ive gotten a little better at defending it, rather then landing on my back i land on my side, better for wrestling, but not so good on my shoulder when my weight and my partners weight comes crashing down on it.

So the other day i basically landed perpendicular to the mat. Felt something give way.

This morning and most of the day i could hardly move it, i just iced and it is feeling better, ill definitely be icing it off and on the next few days.

Hopefully it is nothing serious, but ill be taking it easy on the shoulder and probably hit the gym to see how it feels with just the bar.

It mostly hurts on my front delt, no side to side stiffness, mostly if i try to raise my arm in front of me. And then the bone next to your trap, the flesh behind it is incredibly sore and tender.

Hopefully it will feel better with a afew days rest.

No idea.

Its gotten a lot better, much more flexibility, ect.

It still hurts right at the book of my shoulder bone/trap. But its feeling better, gonna give it a few more days at least before i consider getting it checked out.

Had a quick workout today, needed to relieve some stress, get out of the house. Did some leg press and Abs, about all i can do right now.

You took Psych today? How was it?

Pretty sure i got a five.

I had US history on friday, a 3 hour test, physics yesterday a 3 1/2 hour test.
History i think i got a 4.

Our school has one of the top physics programs in the nation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eanes_Independent_School_District

Read the info about the Highschool, second paragraph:
"Every year, approximately 20% of 5's earned on the AP Physics Exams Statewide are earned by Westlake students. Westlake also owns about 5% of all AP Physics 5's Nationwide."

Our school alone accounts for 20% of the 5's in texas on the physics, and 5% of all fives scored nationwide.

By the time psych and the nice short test rolled around, i breezed through it without any time issues.

The multiple choice i left one blank, and there were probably ten of the 100 i had a 1 in 3 guess at. other then that i knew it all, studied for a few hours.

Free response, on each topic i was able to talk and give examples of 5 of the 7 parts to each and able to hopefully BS the other 4.

Its a good school in a wealthy area of Austin.

But the people that go here for the most part are stuck up, or only care about football. And most people think that just because they go to a good high school means they are destined for a good college, and that they dont have to work.

Unfortunately for me, a lot of people do work hard, i have a 100 weighted GPA, but im ranked 175 out of 630.

Training wise:
Just been doing leg press, and abs for the most part, and some tricep extensions. thats about all i can do that doesnt aggravate my shoulder.

I do look leaner though, and felt a lot more comfortable with me shirt off then i did 2 months ago. 2 months ago i would have been wanting to keep it on, now i would rather take the shirt off and walk around.

Did leg press and Rack deads.

Leg press reps are up a lot.

Few weeks ago, i could do 4 plates each side for 10, today i did 20 reps.

Rack Deads i did 300x5. Not very deep, right above knees, going down below would have aggravated shoulder, staying above did not, so not much Rom, but got some Upper back work in.

Another disappointment. Russel desrved it. Sandra did make some good moves but overall just sat on the sidelines while everyone else just battled it out.

If anyone it should have been
Russell for his incredible gameplay, taking out so many good players.
Parvati, for doing the same even though it was mostly russell, but also for her great performance in challenges.

Whatdya think?

If I was on the jury I would always vote for whoever played the best game. Russell should have won both of the survivors he was on. He got screwed over twice because of a bitter jury. Russell created the whole flow of the game when he tricked tyson and his alliance basically took over the villains and then he did the same thing once the merge happened. He made the past 2 season of survivor and I think it's stupid that he didn't win.

Completely agree.

He is clearly the best game player ever. I have no doubt about that.

He took out Tyson, B-Rob, then was able to trick Jt and crew, was able to orchestrate getting out amanda, and then danielle in order to split parvati and her. He managed to get back on Jerri's good side, but then leave her behind.

His one mistake was taking sandra over courtney, not just in hindsight, but from the getgo, i would have expected Sandra to be a lot harder to control then Courtney.

Im sad for him, he is most deserving and i cannot believe he didnt win either time.

I cant even apply for another 11 months, you have to be 18.

And definitely squat, or deadlift.

Anything lower body.

But it really depends on your style of wrestling, for me Rows are most important, i shoot a lot of single leg takedowns, others shoot more double leg takedowns like my profile pic, which takes more leg strength. I wish my legs were stronger so i could adapt my style to make it more offensive, but ill get there.

Overall, skill>>>>>>>strength.

A friend on the team is an All American and has a scholarship, i doubt he could bench 200, or squat 225 to depth. But he is freakishly strong on the mat and can move people much bigger then him around.

Been trying to rehab my shoulder up.
Working on legs and core.

Lots of legpressing, and pulldowns/weighted abs.

I usually dont do any machine work, but today i went exploring and found two machines, one for biceps and one for lats that dont bug the shoulder at all.

Other then that, i have been eating a bit more then usual, but am back to it now.

I have been doing a whole lot of SAT prep work and i am getting quite nervous but im looking to score a 1400 at least, hopefully closer to a 1450/1600.

Emory
University of Texas.

This past grading period i worked my ass off and my grades show it-All A's for the second time ever.

Also in my freetime i have been doing a lot more reading, favorite authors at the moment are:

David Baldacci
Harlan Coben

Currently reading:

Im looking leaner, abs are near, probably another 1-2 months dieting to be where i want to be bodyfat wise. Depending on being out of town a lot and stuff.

Ive been thinking a lot about next years wrestling season. We have one the most competitive district in region and a strong district in state wide comparison.

one of my best friends and fellow captain will take whichever weight class is easiest from 171-189. depending on what he comes in at and is able to cut.

Ill take whatever is left. And if necessary im willing to cut hard to make it to 160-VERY unlikely and i dont want to do. But i will if it will get me to state.

Just pondering things.

As long as i got a 1400/1600 on my SAT i can get a fullride to Alabama. Out of state tuition is 18k a year. So i would end up saving about 72grand by going there. Plus these days graduate school is practically a must. So i would save my 70k college fund for that.

Also im guarenteed admission to A&M because i got a 1300/1600 and im in top quartile.

So there are two options.

But i dont really want to go to either one.

UVA and UT are still my top two choices. If those both fall through i may got to Bama for a year or two save 35grand and transfer.

Hah, i wish. But no, not good enough.

What about you?

Fathers day today:
Went to Smitty's BBQ in Lockhart, Texas. Lockhart has some of the top bbq in the country. Anyone passing through definitely needs to stop.

Workout today:

225x7 on squat. Felt really good.
Going into the set i was thinking alright, a set of 3 then ill up the weight to 235 or so. Hit 3, kept going, hit 5. By that point i knew i wouldnt be doing another set, so i squeezed out two more.

The good thing about my squats is that my form is much better. So now whenever im midway into a hard rep i dont collapse, or whatever, i can just focus on driving my legs through the ground.

40 minutes on the elliptical today. Felt pretty good.

Easy thing i do to make the time pass is memorize scripture.

Get my SAT scores on thursday. just a few more days.

If i dont get a 1440/1600 or a 2100/2400, im going to take it again.

Im guessing i got a
780-800 math
670-710 reading
1450-1510/1600
if i got anywhere within that i would be elated.

Writing, as long as it puts me over 2100. So 650 at least would be solid.

Workout today:
340x3 deadlift. Huge PR for me. Really pleased with it.
2x10 DB rows 100lbs.
2x10 leg raises.

My first max starting with IA was 290 in march. Been on my own for about 2 months. and will be for one more. and then back with Wes.
290---->340x3

Hit 240x4.

Not an easy set at all. After my third i was having a debate whether to rack or go for a fourth. i got the 4th. A bit of a grinder.

One set of light GM's without a belt to get lower back and hams.

some calf work.

And i tried the ab wheel thing, couldnt do more then 5-6 so i did a few sets of that. And then some leg raises.

Good workout overall.

Today i did some tricep work, shoulder rehab and calves.

I was restless, hadnt been to the gym in four days.

I did a little bit of Decline pressing, lightweight for the shoulder.

Not bad, but a boring workout.

Had a great workout today. One of the best in a while.

300x10 deadlifts. A big PR for me. Up 30lbs from 270x10 2-3weeks ago.
rows, 100x10, 100x20-These i used straps for the first time, and it was quite easy, at least the ten were. The 20 were harder and the strap was slipping off.
Core.

i dont know what a 300x10 deadlift correlates to, but im looking forward to testing my maxes on DL and Squat in a few weeks-a month.

Thanks. Yeah i was definitely breathing hard by rep 7. And it was definitely not a straight ten rep set. By the end i was having a good 8 second break.

But yeah, my back has gotten bigger, my hamstrings are developing more, now that i can work my legs more.

I have my last DL session on wednesday. I leave for South padre for 5 days.

Diet wise: ive been taking a break. For the past 3 weeks, i ate whatever, whenever, and didnt worry. Its been nice, and once i get back, ill add in a bit more precision. But i know that once school starts, itll be 8 months of strict dieting and counting everything i eat. So im taking a break.

340x2 deadlift.
I made up for it on my DB rows.
3 sets with 100.
100x12
100x10
100x19/20

Then Core work.

I can tell my body is ready for a deload. I leave sunday, so ill go ahead and start now.

Trip was awesome. It was a church retreat to South padre. Experienced a lot of new things and made some awesome friends.

Im back to lifting, im about to send Wes some money to get signed up. This week ill likely do a few sets of decline, squat and deadlift, and core. Nothing crazy before i start with Wes again.

I want to "mass" until september. I feel like i put on muscle very easily, but also gain fat. my legs and back are much thicker and i can feel hamstrings coming in from the squats i did prior to the trip. And lats feel bigger after hammering the deads and rows.

So gain a few lbs before september, then cut for wrestling.

good volume on the back you got going there

any reason behind it?

Ehh, Volume isnt too bad.

My deadlifts: a lot of sets

230x5
250x3
270x2
300x1
320x1
330x5

But its all warmups. only 5 hard reps in there.

The gym i go to only has DB's up to 100lbs. So for DB rows, its fairly easy. So i decided to toss in some BB rows before hand-2 sets, and then move on to the DB rows, and i did two sets of ten easily, so i did a set of 20 which was much harder.

I start training with Wes again next week- sent the money. I plan on trying to add on a few lbs of muscle, i feel like i gain muscle real easily. After two squat/gm sessions, i was able to feel hamstrings. After a month of that progression on DLs and DB rows i could feel my lats and back thicker.

Ill do whatever Wes has me doing.

Your best lifts are amazing man, when did you start working out?

hah i wish they were amazing. im proud of my bench and deadlift, squat is stil very much beginner.

I started lifting in 8th grade going 5x a week doing upper/lower split...that ended pretty quick. then i just worked out with football and on my own did a lot of bench and tricep work. I benched 225 with a grip about 1 inch out of my current close grip, so once i went wider, my bench shot up.

First workout back with IA.
Squat: 250x3, 185x15. The triple wasnt too bad and i think next week ill be able to get 260. and the 185 wasnt as hard as i thought it would be, i thought i would hit a complete wall at around 11. I was certainly breathing hard, but i couldve gotten 20 reps.

Next week i will definitely up the squat weight. I thought that 250 would be a good triple because i hit a very hard double with it 2 weeks ago.

NOTE on squats: i changed my grip. When my shoulder was hurt i had it on the very edge of the bar. Today i put it much closer in, and it was a palm grip(didnt wrap thumbs around). and i felt much more at ease under the bar, and able to explode through much better at the top.

Texas Savage
07-22-2010, 03:04 PM
I also took a glance at the first page of my log. Everything has gotten bigger: chest by 3 inches! Legs by 2!

And at the time my BB row was 185x5, last week i did 185x10(2 sets). Ive accomplished almost all of the goals i had except squats and that will happen very soon i hope!

Goals by the end of this routine:
Squat:275x3,215x15
Decline bench: 265x5, 225x10
deadlift: 365x3, 315x10
RDL:245x8

Decided to take a look at my progression so far sine march:

Bench 245--->280
Decline bench 215x3--->255x3
Deadlift: 290---> 300x10,340x3,330x5
Squat: 215x3 not hitting depth---> 250x3(medium)-atg.
BB Rows:185x5---->185x10x2(not max effort)

Bench +35
decline +40to my triple
Deadlift, i mean, just look.
Squats feel WAYYY more comfortable and theyve gone up 35at least on my 3.
Rows-added 5 reps and hit two sets of it after deadlifts.

About to head off to get my workout in. Upper Body volume day-should be interesting.

A month ago i hit 300x10, but that was fresh, not after a 350 ME triple.

Definitely happy with the workout. Im breaking PRs every workout.

Bout to go lead a team run, unfortunately, i have to do these, otherwise i would do other forms of cardio.

But they arent bad, 3 sets of bleachers and 3 double D's.

Also i talked to Wes, and ill start dieting down for wrestling soon. Im currently sitting at about 200, and i need to be at 185 by november, very manageable, 15lbs, and the other 5 ill lose water day before, ect. Right now, im looking fairly lean, leaner then i have in the past, and leaner then i was a few weeks ago. Ive definitely added some mass the past few weeks, stomach looks much smaller in comparison to my legs and shoulders/lats.

My core has gotten a whole lot stronger, and once i drop the weight im confident ill have abs for the first time in my life. Im excited.

i will try to get pictures before i start the cut.

Squat: 280x3,225x15
Deadlift: 360x3, 315x10

All good workouts, i missed a rep on the decline but its alright, that was after an hour long wrestling practice.

i miscounted my deadlift weight last workout(355, not 360), so today i hit 360 for three and it wasnt all too bad. I couldve gotten 4.

My squat day, the 225x15 was the hardest set i have ever had. it felt great afterwards.

Texas Savage

Today was a huge milestone for me.
Cliffs at bottom:

i show up to our wrestling period and our coach says we're going to max out on bench. i asked if i needed to because i already knew about where i was, he said it was cool.

Then i decided i would at least try to hit a pr, one single.

i build up to my old max--pre shoulder sprain-- of 280, and it flys up. Easy.
I stack up 290 on the bar--easy. Already an all time PR for me.

then i decide, hell. Why not go for it?

so i stack up 300lbs. Get settled under the bar, no pump up music, yelling training partners. just me under the bar. Unrack, lift it. No sticking point or annything.

Cliffs:
I have finally bench pressed 300 pounds. 3 bills. Its been my goal for around 3 or four years. And i finally got it. Im on cloud 9 right now. And it feels awesome.

Had a couple of off workouts.

Squat, i warmed up to my triple at 285, got one rep and had to rack it. Dropped the weight down to 275 and still only got one.

that was the day after our conditioning(lots of sprints), so im hoping that was it.

Decline day was alright, i didnt do so well on my decline, but better on all my accessories.

Deadlift day:
365x3
320x10
Both are 5lb prs.

I am also weighing around 195. Steadily dropping some weight, and im looking a bit leaner in shoulders and arms.

Wrestling: My friend and i, both captains are working on perfecting our Double Leg takedown. Last year we would both shoot, and try to lift and run straight through, as opposed to shooting and running to the side and lifting more. Definitely helping my takedowns.

He gives you the macros, but you write the diet. Its easier that way, just use fitday, spend an hour logging food and adjusting to get macros right, and just plug away and eat that.
After a couple of weeks you kinda learn substitutions and what not.

And yes i am very close to the magical 315. Im hoping to get it in a month or two. We'll see. Im cutting weight, so who knows.

Do you pause DBs at the bottom or touch and go? Regardless, very nice. You will be getting 315 really soon if you didn't even have problems with your sticking point at 300.

Im thinking strength recomp or massing. I dont have enough mass nor am i strong enough to do a straight cut. Thats for sure. Ill just wait until i hear his opinion on how im doing things so far and then choose a route.

These are the pics i sent him: http://www.ironaddicts.com/forums/showpost.php?p=357908&postcount=197

Yeah just work on your strength base. Thats all im really focusing on with him. im dropping some weight for wrestling, but i dont even feel like im cutting really, lower carbs but im still eating a ton.

And puma my sticking point is a little less than midway up on bench, so i dont see any reason for me to pause my DBB. Id say its touch and go. But i dont bounce or anything.

Thanks Gonzo!

pulled the sled last night, i did 10 intervals, 1on 1 off. And i was hardly breathing hard, i had a slight sweat going in 85 degree weather. talking to Wes about changing up intervals or adding weight. We will see.

form fell apart somewhat. On my deload Im going to do lots of reps with a wider stance. Numbers may drop at first but the strength will catch up.

Also set another pr.

Wow, Wes is gone. Its been a weird week, whenever i think about calling wes to talk about diet or how its going, i cant. I talked to him friday and we had planned on going over the Warrior Diet on monday. Two days after he passed.

I emailed Exmgtoo, and hopefully we will get things started. Im on a deload now.

This past week of PR's.

Deadlift: 370x3, 325x10
Dips: Bw(195)+65x8

Set some PRs on DB bench, and other lifts as well. Been a good week of lifting.

I have no doubt i will still make gains.

Im just ready to get started on the diet. Wes wanted me to start WD.

If john wants me to to WD, i will, i know Wes said not to have Teens do it, which is what surprised me most about his decision to put me on it.

I'll be creating a new log soon. To represent a new era for me in training. This log was started to chart my progress with Wesley Silveira. But now I am beginning training under Exmgtoo, or John. I gave him a call today. We discussed my routine and I am sticking with what wes had laid out for me but with a few substitutions. I'll be switching back to flat bench which I am excited for. There will be a few other substitutions. Diet will be the same for the most part.

Current lifts:
Bench-300 or 275x5
Squat-285x3
Deadlift-370x3, 325x10
Dips- bw(195)+65x8

Conditioning:
our coach has been running us hard. Doing lots of sprints. I'm in pretty good shape right now and in another month I'll be in great shape. By February I'll be in unbelievable shape.

Wrestling:
I've gotten a lot better at Greco wrestling. Our 215lber doesn't take shots so I get a lot of practice with him.
Our 171 and I are the same weight an we've been working hard on our takedowns. My double leg is way better, I'm using my strength more, I'm much more explosive and quicker. My riding has gotten better, I'm getting much better pressure and am doing better at keeping people on the mat. Mu standup are better and I'm getting away from bottom more. Pins: we drilled cross face cradles on l wednesday. It'll be my pin of choice this year I feel like.

Things I need to work more on:
takedown set ups
getting away from bottom
better riding, more fluid.

Workout today:

I missed out wrestling workout which is when i usually try to up my Power Clean. So i started my upper body workout with powerclean.

185x3, 195x3, 205x2, 215x1, 225x2
Felt great to hit 225x2, my previous best was 195x3 and my all time best was 205x1.

Powerclean, i dont need to drop into a front squat, i usually catch it pretty well in about a half squat.

Close grip bench: 135x10,145x10,155x10,165x10
DBB 90x10

Good workout overall, im looking forward to upping my closegrip weight.

Heres a pic of my back.

todays workout:

DB Rows: 95x15, 100x15(2)
Squats: I was warming up for my set of 3, and my stance felt fine, till i looked at my feet and they were staggered, and one was pointed straight, the otehr outward. i figured that wasnt a good thing at all. So i dropped the weight to 225.

I did a set of 5. Racked it, rested. Then decided i would do another couple sets of five. I did 5, then decided to go ahead and get ten. i got to ten, and nutted up and got 15 reps with it.

225x15.

A good workout overall.

Ehh, worth a shot! My back has gotten way bigger the past two months with the heavy sets on deads, and rows.

And yeah, i cant imagine myself in 10 years either! Right now im at
Bench 300
squat-blows.
deadlift: 3 75x3
Rowing 100's for 15 easy.
powerclean 225x2
dips with 65 attached for 8.

Im definitely already at goals i never thought possible. If i can get my squat down, form is getting better, its just a hard lift for me. I may do some powerlifting meets in the distant future. Unfortunately, my gym only has DBs up to 100. So i may have to switch over to BB rows or add reps. ill talk to John and see what he thinks.

Thanks guys!!

Thanks Ex! Im real excited to see the progress im going to make under you.

Today during wrestling:

We have four stations. But me and the other captain work together and push hard on two, so we usually choose powerclean and squat.

I powercleaned 225x3. I hit two, went for the third, and barely missed the catch. My friend goes, oooh... too bad you only got two. I gave him a glare, and nailed a third full rep. Felt great.

Squat, i did sets of 225 to work on form with my new correct stance.

This evening:

Bench: 285x3, 225x11
My triceps and lockout have gotten way better since last week, its weird. Last week my 280 triple was hard at the lockout. After two closegrip workouts, theyve already improved. Today it was strong off the chest, hit a small sticking point a little less than halfway up, and once i hit the Tricep portion the weight flew up(comparatively). Same thing for my DB incline bench. My triceps were fine pretty much, felt great.

My 285x3 was easier than last weeks 280x3. So next week, 290x3, im excited!!

The 225x11. I usually just do ten. But the trainer at the place i work got 12 today. And he challenged me to go for 12, convientely, after that triple^^. I got 11 though, which is a 3 rep PR for flat bench.

B- 315x1, 300x3.
D- 390x3, 355x10

Today in wrestling we had conditioning. So quite a bit of sprinting. I had planned to wait until tomorrow to deadlift but then realized we have wrestling practice until 5. And after practice I feel like I've been run over.

Deadlfts tonight:

380x3--5lb pr!
345x10--10lb pr!!

The 345 was the hardest deadlift set I've ever done. I had two or three consecutive reps. The rest were rest pause basically. Whew.

So far this routine my triple on deads has gone up 10 and my ten rep has gone up 20. One more dl workout and I hope to add 5 on both.

Workout today:

dumbbell row: 100x15x3
a new pr for me. The dumbbells at my gym only go up to 100. So I'm going to give ex a call and see if he would rather me add reps, or change the movement.

Squats: still working on my corrected stance. Doesn't feel natural quite yet but it did feel better than last week. I did 245x3. As I go heavier the new stance feels less natural so I'll just have to build it back up.

225x20. A big pr for me. Last week was a set of 15. That set was exhausting but so satisfying.

Bench on Wednesday. I'm nervous.

Thanks Norwegian!

The 225x20 was exhausting. I got to 10 and was thinking, just 5 more. Then i got to 15 and decided to do one more so that i would have improved from last week by at least a little bit. Then..i just kept going at the thought of 20.

In other news:

i got offered a job!!
My first three years of training were done at a small, independent gym. There was one trainer, he wrote the workout on the whiteboard and everyone who wanted to come came in and did it. I made great gains and he led me to a 275 bench press at age 15. I hadnt seen him in a year or two, soi gave him a call, he invited me over to the gym, needed me to cover him for an hour, and afterwards he offered me a job!

getting paid to help kids workout and get stronger. Fine by me!!

it will also be good to put on a resume if i decide to do part-time personal training when i get in college.

Ehh, not too many. Probably very few.

The way the gym works is this: the head trainer write the workout on the board. And whoever is paying that month can come in, and do the workout. Mostly middleschool and highschool athletes. They do as theyre told. Come 3-4 days a week and do the workouts. No writing their own programs or anything. Just doing work.

Im not entirely sure whether or not to count it. On my third rep, i was like 3-4 inches from lockout, slowly driving. the spotter moved his finger under the bar. And then in a sort of anger, i drove the weight up. he said he didnt lift it at all, not even a bit.

Nah, deadlifts is mostly mental toughness for me. Im just not strong enough yet for the heavier weights, but dropping the weight is mostly how tough i am mentally. just nutting up and pulling rep after rep. But i have a good 10 seconds in between reps once i hit 4 or 5. its a fairly long set.

First match: I won by two. I wrestled pretty well.

Second match: i teched the guy(won by 15), it was a sophomore on our team, so i gave him a takedown, and didnt pin him.

Third match: was a rematch with the first guy. We both wrestled well. I am out of shape though, and lost it in overtime. But im happy with how i wrestled, i had several good shots on him, and my shot defense is much improved.

Unfortunately the camera died on me after the first period of the first match, so no videos to post. Sorry.
