This is still coming and a matter of time, but at least its a bit of good news for the moment. Those fuckers will be telling us when and what to use to wipe our collective asses with in 20 years:mad:

Victory in The Senate

We usually publish our newsletter on Tuesday. We held it overnight in order to report on the outcome of the Senate HELP Committee’s “FDA Food Safety Modernization Act” (Food Safety) mark up hearing. This hearing would decide whether to amend the dangerous Codex provision. The decision would have a momentous impact on the future of dietary supplements.

During the past few weeks, we met with most HELP Committee Senate offices to discuss our concerns and request an amendment to the Codex language in the Food Safety bill. Why were we so concerned? Because the original legislative language appeared to commit the US to the concept of harmonization of our food and supplement safety laws with a global standard. This global standard in turn is very likely to reflect European standards which are extremely hostile to dietary supplements.

Thanks to the amendment, the bill no longer requires the development of a plan “to harmonize requirements under the Codex Alimentarius”. Now the bill calls for a plan “on whether and how to harmonize requirements under the Codex Alimentarius" (§306, p. 116).

As will be evident, we have not succeeded in eliminating the Codex provision entirely. This is because the Senate wants to keep open the option of adopting some Codex rules while protecting dietary supplements from the harsh European regime. The language of the amendment means that we will have to remain very vigilant and probably refight the same battle over again in the future. But at least the US has avoided committing itself to the concept of Codex harmonization. And this is a very important legislative victory.

US law on dietary supplements is currently governed by The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). Senators Harkin and Hatch, strong supporters of natural health and the use of supplements, have assured us that asking the FDA to review Codex standards will not be allowed to threaten DSHEA. This is vital of course because of the FDA’s well known hostility to dietary supplements.

In his opening remarks in the mark up, Senator Harkin, chair of the HELP Committee, emphasized this message of protecting DSHEA. As the Senate moves forward with the legislation, Senators Harkin and Hatch have also promised to see what else can be done to make absolutely clear that none of its provisions will impact our access to high quality, potent dietary supplements.

There is more good news. The Senate Food Safety bill has eliminated many of the provisions in the House bill that most troubled us. However, we can’t forget that after the Senate passes it’s version of the Food Safety bill, the House and Senate will go to conference. There they will work behind closed doors to combine the Senate and House versions of the bill. This means that the worst provisions of the House bill could return.

Perhaps the most troubling aspect of the House bill is the increase in jail sentences (from three to ten years) and fines (to $100,000 for individuals and $7.5 million for corporations) for "adulterating" or "misbranding" food or supplements. If a food or supplement company cites scientific, peer-reviewed studies in support of a health benefit of a product, this would be deemed by the FDA to be misbranding and could trigger the penalties. Likewise, as defined in the current Good Manufacturing Practices, even minor paperwork violations could, per the FDA, represent adulteration and lead to draconian fines or jail sentences. These penalties are particularly worrying because of the FDA’s well established record of intimidation and legal harassment of innocent parties. It often seems that the FDA’s primary concern is to protect drugs from competition. Drug companies of course pay a significant portion of the FDA’s salaries.

The House bill also imposes new fees on food operations of all sizes, from the very smallest to the largest; imposes record keeping, hazard analysis, food safety plans, and more on farms as well as businesses, small and large; gives the FDA control of farming standards and practices, despite the Agency’s ignorance of these matters; permits the FDA to conduct random, warrantless searches; and ignores the recommendations of a government report on the failings of the FDA and the urgent need for reform at the Agency.

We will continue to work with members of Congress to ensure that the final version of the Food Safety bill does not compromise your access to healthy, natural and sustainable healthcare options, including high quality food and food supplements.

We’ll keep you updated!

Good news! The supplement lobby is fairly large, so it won't be easy for CODEX.

Pharm has EVERYTHING to gain from codex and is THE biggest lobby group by far.

Yes true, but I just don't see pharms fighting tooth and nail to get rid of multi vitamins unless these supplements cut into a large portions of their profits. I see the supplement biz having more at stake and willing to throw out money to save supps. Not that I don't see your prediction coming true or anything -- I just don't see the supp biz rolling over esay.

That IS what codex is in it's original intent. You want a vitamin, you go to the doctor. You won't get any vitamins with amounts higher than FDA guidelines because until the pharm companies do the research and the FDA approves it, they are potentially harmful in above recommended doses, as are things like amino acids, etc.

Puts EVERYTHING into the pham and FDA hands and you get what they say has been studied and approved only. It totally shuts down the supplement industry. The bill written as such has already been in congress a couple of times and they (Pharm) are pushing hard for it.

Biggest lobbyist tends to win in Amerika these days....

I work with the FDA all the time. You DO NOT want these people more involved in your life than they already are. This is freaking huge and 99% of Americans have no idea about it and don't care to know. Issues like this will affect your daily life more than the health care bill, it's an example of how these people take over quietly in the background, exploiting the common mans ignorance of how his own country works.

BTW, anyone that is thinking "this will never pass in America" is totally brain dead or hasn't paid a lick of attention to what is going on in this country.

Good to hear that a small victory was won but here in Europe I'm afraid that the battle is lost. Most people around here are so fucking stupid and busy with themselves :wallbash: that they have no clue what's coming down. They don't even see that they are fooled into a policestate at a rate even George Orwell couldn't think off.

Implemented over the last year,

-Electronic registration of healthfiles on every citizen.
-Electronic public transportation chip cards(registration of movement).
-Every new passport has fingerprints in them. All fingerprints are stored in a central database(only country in Europe).
-Within one or two years, electronic databoxes in cars for milages tax(and movement registration of course).
-At the end of the year(mabey) the Codex where the goverment fucks tell you what's good enough to throw down your throat.

All these things are offcourse for our safety and will make our lives so much better and easier.

What ever you do stay clear of the Netherlands. They don't even allow you to own .50 cal:shoot5:.

That is scary shit. Not to sound like a hardass, but if that goes down here in the states, I will be getting ready for war.
I hope there are others who are thinking the same way.

EVERY SINGLE item listed above has already been in the house and some have made it to the senate. Also many states are looking into them separately.

After reading this thread today, I was listening to a rock DJ on the radio talking about a kid that got ran over on his scooter in Sacramento the other day. They say the driver ran right over him, killed him instantly, and took off. This DJ was going off on how every car should have a tracking device in it so they could find people that do this sort of thing.

It blows my mind that anyone is so willing to give up their privacy and freedom like that. Sure I feel bad for the poor kid, but not bad enough to have the damn government knowing every single place I drive!

Have people lost their mind? People have already been busted for all sorts of stuff through their OnStar systems, and people still want their vehicles tracked?

It's starting to worry me that normal people look at me like an outlaw weirdo whenever I start talking about the government slowly stripping away all of our freedom and privacy.

2009 is supposed to be the year Codex is globally ratified - as I understand it the IMF could actually apply sanctions and fines to the US for failing to sign up.. and that was the fear even before Obama crawled deeper into the UN's pocket.

I wonder if they can slip this under the radar in the healthcare bill, or peicemeal attatched to whatever Green legislation is coming down the pipe

europe has bigger things to worry about - this is a direct quote from the recently UNelected European president (the new office set up by the UNvoted for European Constitution)

"New resources will be necessary for the financing of the welfare state. Green tax instruments are a possibility, but they are ambiguous: This type of tax will eventually be extinguished. But the possibilities of financial levies at European level must be seriously examined and for the first time the large countries in the union are open to that."

Yep, since people are finally catching onto the Green Tax scam they're going to drop the pretense and just levy extra federal taxes. This is an unelected body that has the right to override soverignty of member countries - and some people actually think this is a good thing.

From what I read at infowars(oke, a little paranoid every now and then) they are doing a good number on your constitution as well. If I read it correctly the 2nd amendment, is under attack. And for good reason because armed citizens could become a real problem for a fascist dictatorship in the making.

And as for the Codex, Dr. Laibow says it all in a few words, control the food, control the people.
