I'm 17 and don't have any vids yet. The only one I have is me doing 365 for a physics project.

I do touch and go when I max usually

i'm at a loss of words here. IMPRESSIVE. how much did you bench the very first time and how old were you? if you don't mind me asking

son15
12-01-2009, 08:26 AM
Thanks, I don't Mind. Started when I was 13, the summer after sixth grade, lifting with my uncles. I could only do the bar a few times at the time but I shot up quite a bit that summer. My uncles and me love to lift together. Usually when we have family get togethers, we'll go out to my barn and lift.

Looks like you stick to two main exercises and absolutely kill them! You don't do any back work?

Thanks. I haven't gotten much work on my back done since wrestling ended but I do do other excercises (like curls or tricept extensions) but sometimes that would be a lot to put on here. Me and my uncles take a long time when we lift so I cant usually remember even the whole bench workout.

cool, just a bit of advice. I wouldn't neglect back totally. I found benching tough on my shoulders and back work really improved my shoulder health. Your shoulders must be fine to be able to bench 400 but its worth doing some hard back work if its gonna prevent an injury. A strong back will probably help your bench. I've read that alot of powerlifters really train their lats hard as it improves their bench.

Would love to see some videos or some pics soon?
gd luck.

Yeah I actually ran into that this last summer. I just hadn't gotten around to it much lately. I did work on them today.
Thanks ill try to get a video up sometime. I have recently run into needing to work on my shoulders just to protect them.

good luck with 425.

Interesting how on each exercise you warm up to a max weight then head all the way back down again. Any reason for this? You also use pretty low reps most of the time. I been doing that till recently. Strength gains have been good.

It seems like doing a high rep at the end is a good cool down to me. It also kind of works that last bit out of you. I believe you kind of have to do both. I'll usually do high weight for a while and then focus more on higher rep once I kind of get to where I dont gain much.
It helps having my uncles though, they have a lot of good advice on gains. They're the ones that lift with me. They also showed me the good form which helps a lot.

I might give that a go on some exercises as I need to up my volume abit.

Your volume is pretty high, what are your goals? Training for strength or bodybuilding or a sport?

son15

Like to get into powerlifting as a sport maybe even strongman. One of my crazy goals is to get the world raw bench press record.
I really need to work on my legs a lot though. I suck at legs.
Do you arch your back on bench?

aaron
02-23-2010, 09:10 AM
well you seem to have a very good start in either of those sports. A 400lb squat definately isn't bad at all. Just it should be a fair bit higher when you look at your bench.

I rarely bench cus I train at home with just a barbell (no rack or anything) but when I do I arch my back. If I don't it kills my shoulders.

I was just wondering because, I found out that it makes a world of difference. I lifted the other day and tried 410 twice and missed it but I set my self perfectly one last time and got it up easy. I found out you have to hit it right on your chest and have to use your legs. You really don't realize how much you have to use on bench until you get seeing how the big guys do it. Its Amazing.
