Day 2

Weight-172.3 lbs

Squat-200
Bench-125
Deadlift-205, not sure about the form on this, going to have to correct it before I hurt myself on higher weight.
Dips-2x8

Always been good at dips and found them to be kinda easy, the only question is do I have to stick with a 2x8 of them or can I do more if I feel I can?

You only do 1 rep? I dont understand... Write how many sets and reps you do

Rippetoes is three sets of five for all lifts apart from deadlifts which are just a single set of 5 so it's safe to assume that, unless stated otherwise i.e. with chins and dips then he got the listed weight for three sets of five.

I used to do Starting Strength. I bought the book and I also bought the dvd. I then stalled twice and gave it up. I now do the Iron Addicts Three Day Hardgainer Routine. I never did drink the gallon of milk a day, but I did do the program exactly as specified other than that.

Good luck to you, Smack.

This. I list the weights for the rep/set scheme that is used with rippetoe's. Everything is a 3x5 with the exception of deadlift which is a 1x5.

Day 3

Felt good going in today, and was really disappointed that I couldn't throw on more weight for military, but the other two went up and I felt that my squat was actually kind of easy even with the increase.

Squat-205
Military-95
Bent Row-120
Pullups-2x8

Excited to push my squat up to 225 so I can throw on 2 45's, never done that with any lift so it is kind of a milestone for me. Yeah, I know that most of your probably warm up with that weight but whatever.

I know!
Right now I am at 225 x 10 for the squat. I am going to try to do that tonight. I missed one day last week, so my "day three" is now on Monday (tonight).

I hope you get the 225 for squats. I hope I do too. I am going to try to keep eating big and turning the freaking computer off early at night so I sleep good, too!

225 is not joking, and I am breaking parallel, too!

Thanks man, hope you get it too. Starting I really only wanted my bench to go up, but now I am just loving the squat gains.

Day 4

Squat-210
Bench-130
Deadlift-210
Dips-2x8

Felt great coming into this, and felt even better coming out. All my lifts went up the way I wanted to, and my deadlift felt great, the form was much better and I feel like I could have done a lot more weight. Bench was pretty tough on the last set but I pulled through, and squat was tough as well, but still feel like I can do more. The thing is with squat is that I feel it more in my glutes than anything else, I can still feel it in my quads and hams it just dominates my glutes, is this normal?

Day 5

Squat-215
Military-100
Bent Row-125
Pull ups-2x6

Great workout today despite waking up later than I wanted to and oversleeping my alarm. Getting closer to that 225 squat I am after, and today it felt great so I know I will hit it next week. Also, I gained exactly one pound from last week (172.3->173.3) so I am pretty sure this diet is going to work since I finally got it right. Now time to enjoy the weekend!

Day 6

Deadlift-215
Bench-135
Squat-220
Dips-2x8

Despite having a rough weekend since I was at a friend's house for the majority of it and pretty much lived off bad food and beer, I was able to recover on Sunday and hit it hard today. All my lifts went up and they all felt great, I couldn't imagine not doing deadlifts in a workout, they hurt so good!

The squat gains were my favorite part of Rippetoe's. Glad to see you got your diet in check- maybe it would have gone better for me if I had kept track of mine.

Keep up the good work. Are you squatting like Rip says to in the book?

I have never read the book, but I have a slightly wider stance than shoulder width because it get the pressure off my knees, and I go to parallel if not a little bit lower.

Yep, same here.

That thread was all it took to convince me to widen my stance. I'm real paranoid about fucking up my back and knees, and since widening my stance my joints feel much better.

Day 7

Squat-225
Military-105
Bent Row-130
Pullups-2x8

Woke up at 6 am so I could workout before work today, was excited to put my squat up to 225 so being tired didn't get to me. Military is my new enemy and I can say I genuinely hate this lift, it is insanely hard for me, is hell on my wrists and feel like it doesn't do me much good. On the other hand Bent Rows feel real good so I guess 2/3 ain't bad.

Woot! 225 squat for reps.

Yeah, I'm excited.

Day 8

Weight-172.4 (I'M MAD)

Squat-230
Bench-140
Deadlift-220
Dips-2x8

Overslept my alarm by an hour and a half today and was not pleased. Felt odd going to the gym but it ended up being a good workout anyway. All my lifts went up and bench felt extremely easy, squat was pretty tough for the last set. I actually lost about a pound and am extremely mad, I can probably pin it on the terrible weekend I had, nutrition wise but not party wise, not making that mistake again.

Day 9

Squat-235
Military-105
Bent Row-135
Pullups-2x8

Today was an alright day, I'm still getting angry with my Military press as it is not going up like the other lifts are, so I get pretty discouraged on these days. Just hopefully I am eating enough this week to actually gain weight.

Day 10

Squat-240
Bench-145
Deadlift-225

Today was the hardest I have ever worked, period. Deadlift went pretty smoothly and bench was difficult for the last set. Squat was insane, I could barely catch my breath for the last two sets and it was hell having to push myself down to parallel. It felt good though but I am pretty sure I just need to be eating more for this to be even better.

Day 11

Weight-172.7

Squat-245
Military-105
Bent Row-140
Pullups-2x8

This workout pissed me off, I am getting extremely frustrated with my military press, I can never get more weight up and it seems like the weight is getting heavier every week even though it is not going up at all. My weight barely went up and I have to eat even more now, I can barely handle everything I am eating, it's getting ridiculous.

Day 12

Squat-250
Bench-150
Deadlift-230
Dips-2x8

Tried mixed grip for the first time on deadlift today, felt kinda weird but could definitely feel a stronger grip. Bench went well but was pretty tough on the last set, had to really push on the last rep. Then, my damned iPod died before I got to my working sets for squats and I had to listen to the terrible gym music, but got them never the less.

I hate when the MP3 dies on the last exercise..big bummer.

Are you switching your dominant or weak hand?

I switched my left hand, which is my weak hand, I tried it the other way and couldn't even move the weight haha.

Day 13

Squat-255
Military-110
Bent Row-145
Pullups-2x8

Today's workout was just real tough for some reason, most likely due to the terrible sleep I got last night but oh well. Military finally went up but it was insanely hard, otherwise my squat is about 1.5 times my body weight so I am stoked about that.
