Hey guys, I recently got my hot tub back and running for the first time in a few years. It feels great, I have been going in it at about 2 hours before bed time for about 10-15 mins the past few days. Its very relaxing. The temp is set at the maximum 104. I know that there are some positive effects of hottubin, but I am wondering about the negative ones. I read somewhere that sitting in a hot tub too often can cause male fertility?

INfertility.

One 30 minute session in the hot tub can throw off sperm production for up to 3 months. I just went through all this madness because my wife wanted another kid. One of the things we did was to drain the hot tub. It's fantastic immediately following a grueling workout, but it certainly can interfere with fertility. In most cases, the damage done is reversible. But it will likely take at least 3 months (eliminating all other interfering variables) to get back to normal.

That is not to say that hot tub use will keep you from knocking up the old lady, but it certainly can play a large role in keeping that from happening.

Haha wow man. My parents are going to be mad that I'm not going to be using it often anymore. I am almost 20 now, If i use it a few times a week for the next ten years say goodbye to offspring.

It is true. You have to watch yourself in your epsom salt baths too. Too hot of water for too long can cause issues as well.

I'll bet it's good for the muscles.

I would love to sit in one but I avoid chlorine as much as possible, in me or on me.

Guys,

This isn't about hot tubs. It is about heat. Sperm are very frail, and if you do anything (occupational or leisure) that exposes your testicles to excessive heat, or even doesn't allow for normal heat dispersal, it will affect male fertility. Hot tubs/jacuzzis, using a laptop too much (specifically on your lap), serious cyclists (testicles compressed on the seat without good heat diffusion), a variety of job-related activities, etc. Info and references easily found on any search engine.

Why do you stay away from chlorine? I like pools/hot tubs because it helps my acne.

Is sperm count directly related with testosterone production?

Correlated? Yes. Causally related? Not clear to my knowledge. However, sperm quality and motility are more important than count. A healthy adult male makes about 100 million sperm a day, so running low usually isn't the problem. Rather, most of us do all kinds of things that damage the sperm we make, leaving us with a vast army of unfit soldiers.
