SAMSUPERJEW'S STRENGTH LOG

BACKROUND I've done some bs. bbing routines on bb.com, but now i'm into pling, and am starting up with ia

http://doubleyourgains.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/heavy-deadlift.jpg

ROUTINE
I'm doing madcows, but am starting up with ia very soon, so i'll prob. have a different routine (just as) soon

GOALS
I'm not really planning to get bigger, i know i will, but i'm aiming to get as strong as possible, weight (muscle) gain, will probably still happen though, cause i'm still a noob, i'm all for strength gains, especially in deadlift

http://www.titansupport.com/products/suits/henry.jpg

CURRENT MAX'S

bench: 215

Squat: no idea, ~315

Dead: 441

powerclean: 195

MAX'S BY MY BIRTHDAY IN THE END OF FEB.

bench: 285

squat :500 equipped

dead: 550+ equipped

powerclean: 315

DIET

I dont really have a planned diet, i get 200-350 grams of protein a day, and it works for me...... so i'm pretty lenient with myself here. I try to get a gallon of milk a day though

http://www.lvhsfootball.com/Powerclean/Images/08Contest/Del%20Sol%20365.jpg

STATS

5'7'' 160-162

SUPPS!

I get a scoop of protein powder in here or there... and get some caffine in whenever i'm feelin sluggish, and might start PEA just for fun if i can get some money on hand. I also have a multi+fishoil, and am following ia's recommendations on dosage/brand

TODAYS WORKOUT!!!

i was wearing my squat suit today.... twas interesting

i went to the gym at 5, came back at 7, i was actually in the gym for 1:20 though

squatz!!!! SUITED
315x3, easy, straps down, i fought for like 20 seconds to hit depth
365x2, also easy, straps down, hard to hit depth, wearing knee wraps
405x00000000 straps up, i could get down 1/2way, it was hard, and i rocketed up
465x000000 i was like 1/2 way down, straps up, wraps tight, couldn't hit depth

i think the problem is that i ate a massive plate of spagetti pre workout, the suit was ****ing tight

powercleans
135x5
155x5
165x4
185x2
195x0, way too tired

then core work (hypers) and light front squats, all the places to do ab's were taken

ktm_Wrench

HUGE weights Sam. You have somebody helping you out right? Keep it up.

Samsuperjew
03-23-2009, 08:04 PM
no just me :/

on my 405, one of the sides of the bar didn't catch on the rack, and it was falling, and this guy was loooking at me, and i screamed "help", and he just kept staring and made me finish myself :/

usually everyone is helpful though

Joe
03-23-2009, 08:08 PM
No worries Sam. Once your body gets acclimated to the suit and weight #s will start flying up.

Samsuperjew
03-23-2009, 08:18 PM
thanks

the suit was so tight, i was getting the cracks i get in my back i usually get when squatting heavy just from the shoulder straps when i bent over to put on knee wraps :0

i'm probably not going to be squatting equipped more than 2x a month though.... i'm not sure yet whether or not i'm going to compete raw or equipped in my meet in june

edit: when do you get your name in bold?

Samsuperjew
03-23-2009, 08:40 PM
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e232/samsuperjew/fitday1.png

here is my fitday from a while ago

i usu. put in my diet weekly (~ same foods daily) to make sure i'm on the right track

those aren't the EXACT foods, but the macro's are as close as i could find

edit: forgot .5 lbs of turkey at lunch

Weilder
03-23-2009, 08:50 PM
That is some solid eating! Hope your excited to start loading up the bar :)

Samsuperjew
03-23-2009, 08:52 PM
I always am :p

my disks feel like crap though, i need to work on my arch, when i start up with ia, i think i'm going to ask if i can get extra core work, i need it

but dont get me wrong, i'm not a roundbacker, its just (this is a guess) that i guess when my spine is straight while squatting, it puts the weight in the wrong places

any reason why your using suits so early in your training career? i do know suited lifting will help raw lifting but shouldn't you have waited until you were stronger?

i could be wrong

Samsuperjew
03-26-2009, 11:15 PM
There sort of is.....

I want to compete in equipped pling competitions by the end of the year, so i got "cheap" ($160 dollar) suit for 60 bucks off of ebay so i could practice in it (its a titan centurion). I'm going to use it once a month, so i can find my "groove", and to get me used to wearing gear. By the end of the year (the meet i'm going to in december) i'm going to upgrade to the new centurion, and will compete equipped.

The centurion is also an awesome suit because it doubles as a deadlift suit

TODAYS WORKOUT

horrible workout, ****ing horrible, my nutrition for today sucked, i did paintball preworkout, so i couldn't tell if my soreness was caused from bad form, or from the massive welts all over my body

SQUATZ, INTERESTING DAY

135x5
225x5
285x5: this was really weird, some random guy came up and started offering (good) advice on form etc, and really helped me work out my breathing, and showed me how to keep my upperbody tight, i cant thank him enough
315x2: no knee wraps this time, i coulda gotten it if i had more time to rest :/
320x1

zercher squatz
135x5
155x5
185x5
This was odd, i was at a different gym then usual, so i couldn't use chalk, so rows/powercleans were out of the question, and with my (limited ) excercise knowledge, these were the most helpful things i could think of that wouldn't hinder my recovery too much.

defecit deadlifts?
i dont know how much the defecit it was, but i was wearing heeled shoes (good shoes at moms house) and the bar was 1cm from my foot

Conventional:
135x5
225x5
285x5
315x1
335x1

sumo (just wanted to see what it was like)
225x5
285x5

accesory work

just did bw hypers/situps (incline), way to tired to do much more, or my dips, i'll just have an easy workout on monday. There was not a bench at this gym

I dont really know how bad/good of a workout this is in reality, i know that my hamstrings feel like they were sodomized with a night stick, and they are always my weak point on deadlift, so i'm going to rest up this weekend, and eat well, because if my legs can heal in time, i bet my deadlift is going to get an extra 5 lbs more then usual

Samsuperjew

i wouldnt be puttin my staps up just yet if your training is at the end of may, i would just leave ur straps down and work the suit awhile. U should post vids of your squats because getting down in that suit shouldnt be that hard with 465.

Samsuperjew
03-29-2009, 10:18 PM
i'll try to get a memory card and transfer them over, the majority of the problem, is i dont really trust the suit enough to just sit back with the weight :(

do it in a pinned squat rack and just sick back or have someone spot u on ur suited days.

do it in a pinned squat rack and just sick back or have someone spot u on ur suited days.

should i start off with quarter squats, and just move the pins down once every rep? i dont have a spotter :/

president_fad
03-29-2009, 10:37 PM
should i start off with quarter squats, and just move the pins down once every rep?

i would put it low enough to where u can hit depth and then just keep sitting back, back when i trained at the commercial gym i dumped weight alot, just dump it off your back and not over your head, that mite hurt.

its gonna be fun racking/reracking plates though, we dont have a gun rack to "walk it up"

TODAY'S WORKOUT!

Was an awesome workout, went through it fast, although my kneewraps were pissing me off for one set, i can never seem to get my left one tied correctly, even though both are pretty damn loose

I also had the opportunity to talk to Wesley over the phone. He seems like an awesome guy, and i look forward to training with him, he knows his stuff (although... who am i to judge :/ )!

TODAYS WORKOUT!

Was an AWESOME worout, and i took alot longer between sets (did 200 seconds), did wonders for my recovery between sets, and there was a guy there telling stories about working at the county jail (right next to the gym). On my way to said gym, it was pouring outside, so needless to say, i not only could take my shortcut by the highway, but i also had to bike for 4 miles... IN THE RAIN. It was fine though, i broght a change of clothes, and had an insane workout, which is all that really matters. I hope i dont chafe though :0

DEADLIFTS!!!!!!!! (!!!!)

Samsuperjew
04-07-2009, 08:52 PM
the IO challenge is the "iron owl" challenge hosted on bb.com by a couple of its members

there are 2 catagories

strength

and physique

2 winners, whoever gets the best strength gains, and who gets the best physique gains in the set time period, i've added 80 to my deadlift, so i'm pretty sure i'm in the lead in that catagory

and i'll post em up tommorow

TODAYS WORKOUT WITH IRONADDICT

As always, i cannot divulge the full details of my workout for obvious reasons, but i'll tell you my pr's. If IA decides to drop in and tells me that this is too much info, i'll have to tell you guys less, but i'm pretty sure this wont be too much, i'm only telling you guys one compound lift

BARBELL BENCH

Warmups
205 FOR X

then a couple sets leading up to this, but my main pr for the day was a few reps with 205. I did it pling style, with elbows tucked, for the first time in my life and LOVE it. I could have gotten alot more. I'm going to email Wesley though and ask how much exactly i can tell you guys. If this is too much, i'm sorry

During one excercise though, i had trouble with my shoulder flexability, so thats something i need to work on.

Stick with the Glute ham Raises no matter how much they suck, they will benefit your squat and pull immensely. I like to squeeze the hell out of my glutes at the top to add just a bit extra to it.

Stick with the Glute ham Raises no matter how much they suck, they will benefit your squat and pull immensely. I like to squeeze the hell out of my glutes at the top to add just a bit extra to it.

Disclaimer: If IA has you doing them a specific way, listen to him

i'm stickin to them, ia has me doing them.... and i'm starting to see why

i'll try that next week if i do them, i'll have to check my "schedule"

thanks for the heads up in my thread

wanted to congratulate ya on winning the contest with IA, good luck on working with him, man, gonna make good gains
thanks man

ive always done apf/aapf because my coach is the state chair.

Do you plan on doing single ply, multiply what?

Usapl just seems a little too uptight to me, the make the guys go 3 inches below where they need to.

i've been doing it all raw for now...... but have a squat suit (titan centurion, bought off ebay for cheap) and am probably going to head down to either southside barbell, or a university gym with some plers i met at my last meet, and go break it in/figure out how to get more than a half squat

i dont know if i'll ever go multiply, i would if i could eventually.... but i wouldn't be able to get it on :/

i'll look into the apf, i'm prob do a meet with them sometime after the summer

as always, not my full workout, but the fun parts

DEADLIFTS.... fuck yeah bitch!:p

135x2
225x2
315x2
420x1
445x1
467.5x1, had the weight hanging down in the middle, it was awesome having someone there to get me up, especially him... he slapped me silly :p. The atmosphere really is everything... i'm sure if i trained at southside barbell constantly... i'd be alot stronger.

GLUE HAM RAISES, IN OTHER WORDS: HELL!
8 reps with my thumbs
8 reps with two finger
8 reps with a reverse purple band.... i think imma stick to doing it like this

i did ALOT with my brother..... its awesome having someone else here to motivate me.... even though i'm usually a good self motivator

my diet today was spot on... 400+ grams of protein 4500+ calories.... i could down a horse lately

stritations coming back in shoulders and legs... getting more than my usual 3 seperations..... getting some good veins in lower abs and shoulders.....my back is getting thicker, and my rear delts are bulging

i like it

Today was a fucked up day. Yesterday i got my permit though, and was able to drive on a main highway though, and got like 85 mph in the camry. Cool. But the screwed up part, is when i got to my moms house, (was at dads) she started bitching at me for being "depressed" or something because i'm not hanging out alot with kids my age (chill alot with older kids). So after i went to the gym, i went over to my friends house and played some football with 9-10 kids. Tackle football (without pads, with pads is a whole different game) is sorta boring for me... considering everyone is like 135-155 pounds........ and most of them are basketball players, so football isn't their forte'.

BENCH!!!! Who knew this could be fun?!?!?!?!!?
lol, this was interesting.... i like it
190x3
200x3
212.5x3, pr!!! felt easy as all hell.... it was almost as fast as my speed bench (yes srs, except for the last one) Its a 10 lb pr really, because on my last ME bench day, the last one was slightly assisted, if you dont count that, its a 7.5 lb pr. This is out of this fucking world. Needless to say... i'm very happy, all smiles on my bike ride home from the gym, despite having to bike against the wind/rain :/.

CLOSE GRIP BENCH! PAUSED!

Nice benching.

Chilling with older kids is definitely more fun if most of the folks your age aren't as mature as you. I was the same when I was your age; most of the people my age that I knew didn't seem to be as mature as me. They were quite happy to sit around playing the Xbox and stuff. I wanted to go out late at nights and get laid and stuff. I'm firmly in the belief that those who have some older friends or an older sibbling (as long as they get along) will have a far easier transition from childhood into adolescence and far more enjoy themselves.

I'm mad as all hell... i now know sorta what IA feels like :/

I went to the gym, and my brother came along, and it started out normal. I did my speed pulls, while he started doing one of the routines i found here and gave to him..... I told him the night before to research it, and find out how to properly execute each movement, and how to do it properly. Today in the gym, i found him deveating from the routine so much i had to follow him around and pretty much make sure he did it. Also the entire time, he couldn't keep his fucking ego in check, and felt like doing half squats with 185, till i got him to do full ones with 135, which i saw was EASY for him... but he wasn't putting in enough effort. Then he'd ask me a question, and i'd explain the answer to him..... then he'd be like "ok, but i think i'll just do it my way"... he doesn't have "a way", he's been going to the gym for a week :/.

Today was a fucking awesome workout, to big guys in the gym helped me out a little (spots). Its so much different using a powerrack when you have instead of pins, 2 people to the side of you who you can trust to catch you if you fall... and wont crush ur fingers in the process. I was there alone, my bro went earlier and actually followed the damn routine, so i was at peace when i went. Without further ado... here goes:

DEM DER BOX SQUATS
boxes slightly below parallel, just as it'd be in a (usapl) meet
WARMUPS
135x5
225x5
315x4
adds light bands
355x3
385x2.5

spotters ftw, i failed halfway up on that last one

i've let my ego go a little, which is good, and made it so there is ABSOLUTELY NO tension at the top... change is GOOD

Just curious, roughly, what does your diet look like?

Samsuperjew
04-30-2009, 07:08 PM
~1 gal of milk
lots of nuts
2-3 lbs of assorted meats
spaghetti .5-1 lbs of pasta
meatballs
and a random carb/protein product (sub, etc)

i wont really say the exact macro's laid out for me though, i WILL say however... that it is alot :p

president_fad

You know, the one thing i like about reading logs like these, is the fact that there are actually teens out there, 15 or so, who want to train their ass off and get big/strong and have the opportunity to get help and training for free or at the low cost of ia, it makes me wish i had that chance.

order your belt from apt pro wrist wraps, there is a 15% off code as well
they sell chalk for cheap as well, but i'll share with you at our gym
try to get a 30 dollar pair of chucks (converse shoes) or wrestling shoes for squats and deads

edit: NVM the bench thing was stupid for some reason I thought you were at 250.. my starting at 275 is not even fair...that was dumb of me lol

BUT my deadlift sucks, and its still on with the deadlift :D. I am <405 :(....I need to see what kind of work will finally make it go up :)

Friendly competition is always a good thing, hopefully it will get me to lift a little more seriously.

I seriously wish I started younger like you, I am trying to convince my little brother to start lifting but he is just not in to it for some reason :(

Samsuperjew
05-09-2009, 06:22 PM

B.Money
05-09-2009, 06:25 PM
Sweet, that helps haha.

Hope you don't mind I am using you as my powerlifting guinea pig :D, I have been taking note with the whole flat feet benching, rack command, up command, down command, blah blah and have been training accordingly. I think that will be the hardest part for me is remembering to follow commands.

Samsuperjew
05-09-2009, 06:27 PM
I dont mind, but i'm sure you could find much stronger and smarter pigs out there

what fed are you planning on lifting with though, they all have fairly different rules

B.Money
05-09-2009, 06:30 PM
^lol well I never even thought of things like that, I would have bombed out on my first meet just because I didn't remember to wait for the commands lol.

I have no idea to be honest...should I think about and choose one? To be honest I don't know the difference, I just look on powerliftingwatch.com and see meets in my area and its getting tempting.

Samsuperjew
05-09-2009, 06:32 PM

B.Money
05-09-2009, 06:38 PM
Im in southern california, I would likely go to a meet in LA somewhere.

I need to get a little stronger so I don't feel too lame, I need at least a 405 deadlift I would feel bad having them unload too many plates for my deadlift attempt :D

Seriously? I thought LA would have tons!

B.Money
05-09-2009, 06:41 PM
One last simple question...how do you sign up?? lol

Do you call the phone # after you click on whatever meet you want to attend, and just let them know?

Samsuperjew
05-09-2009, 06:41 PM
there is like 15 a year, which is alot compared to some states, but down here in FL, we have like 30

and you will def. not feel lame, there was someone at my meet with a sub 300 total, and they got cheered on just as much as a 600 lb squatter did

EVERYONE at the meet is willing to cheer you on, and everyone is supportive

edit: go to powerliftingwatch.com, find a meet, click on it, and sign up! it usually redirects you to the federations website

B.Money
05-09-2009, 06:53 PM

Ok, i found the chalk. Do you think 5 bars will last me 2 months?
And for wrestling shoes, i dont think im gonna get them until i get back from taiwan and get a few more weeks in. I might get them for that meet in december you're talking about.
This is what i had in mind, Nike Speedsweeps VI. I think they look pretty good

having a partner made this ALOT easier to calibrate, as i did them reverse doubled mini's, with 0 tension for the first inch, and the baar weighted 465 at the bottom, and 500 at the top. For some reason, i've always made better progress with bands
