View Full Version : i need help with the last month coming up to the contest

January 29th i will be competing in a strongman contest that i already know i don't stand a chance of placing anywhere near the top unless we get a last minute teen division. I just want to break some big PR's. The events are darn heavy (for me atleast)

events are

Axle clean and press for max weight - 220 starting weight

Pipe carry- 250lb pipe carry 50ft then 300lb pipe carry 50ft back

Tires-Six progressively heavier tires for 1 flip each – 565, 625, 685, 750, 900 and over 1000lbs, chalk and gorilla grip allowed. 60 second time limit, if you flip the 5th tire you will get another 30 seconds (for a total of 90) for the last tire.

CARRY - LOAD AND DRAg- Carry and load a 230lb keg to a 180lb sled and drag the sled backwards to the finish 60’ each way. 60 second time limit to finish or distance will be measured, only chalk will be allowed.

STONEs- Seven stones, 250, 260, 280lbs to 54” platform, 300 & 330 to 48” and 360 & 405 to 38”.
Tacky allowed, 60 second time limit, if you load the 6th stone you will get another 30 seconds (for a total of 90) for the last stone.

The lightweight guys(a lightweight in strongman is someone under 231lbs) like me probably wont finish all the events but they want us to see how we fair up against the heavy weight guys.

OK lets get something clear i understand there's a month left and not much i can do to get stronger but mainly i want to construct a good plan so come contest day my CNS is fully charged and ready to fire.

I train with weights twice a week

my routine is basically

Monday
Dips
Deadlift or variation
Chinups
1-2 events

Tuesday-
HIIT/Stretching, mobility work and foam rolling

Thursday-
Squat or variation
Axle cleaning and pressing
more axle work like rows
1 event

ok on January 12th i will be hitting a deadlift PR (im doing a small deadlift cycle i made that seems to be working). For my axle clean and overhead press i have/will be working with 70-85% of my 1rm until the 15th of January.

my problem starts here i don't really know what to do from the 15th of January to contest day the 29th

I know most of you have not competed in strongman but a powerlifter and a strongman both want a primed CNS the day of the meet so if you guys have any ideas please post them up

Just my two cents, if you're planning on competing over the long haul in this sport, it's all about where you end up 10-15 years from now, not where you started. So over the next few meets, just try different things. See what helps you and what doesn't.

You have to figure these things out for yourself.
