For the last 6 weeks I have been training my legs one day a week (Wednesday) doing squats and leg press (2 working sets, 3 warm up sets). Also the last 9 weeks I've been playing basketball 3 times a week for cardio. Everything was going great until week before last I wasn't able to complete the same weight/reps on leg press. Last week, same thing but worse. Whats worse is when I played ball, my legs felt dead, like I had nerve damage or something. I was fine 20-30 minutes after I stopped, but it was really weird while playing. Does this sound like my legs are rebelling against me or do I have some kind of injury? I love playing bball and have also done it as my primary source of cardio, but now its like I'm too old. If I have to stop playing, I will, but I'd rather find another solution if it exists.

BTW Here are the vitals:

26 y.o.
5'11"
223 lbs (down from 260 on Jan 17, 2004)
approx 27% bf

No, I'm not able to add weight or reps. Last week I actually had to drop weight on the press.

You may find it entirely possible to keep the progression on the weights by abbreviating your leg routine, and or adding additional rest days. Cutting back to only two basketball sessions may be needed if the WO change doesn't get you there though. BB can be pretty damn intense and can use up a big chunk of your recovery ability, but if you are an older athlete I vote on keeping it in your schedule to some degree. As one ages the need for more CV health becomes even more of an issue than when younger and does wonders for SLOWING DOWN the aging process. YES, it can be slowed down to a HUGE degree by doing all the right things.

Well since I sprained my ankle on Tuesday night playing basketball, I'm going cut back to once a week (maybe once every two weeks). I truely think that playing is causing me to not have gains in the legs since I was exploding up in weight prior to starting the basketball.
