Switched over to sumo deads, so I need my form checked. If yall got any good articles on sumo deads saved in your favorites that would be nice too.

Looks like you got good form. For me on sumos my hips tend to pop up early when I go heavy but the sequence of your lift looks good.

Not that I am an expert, but that looked great. Nice job.

Push your hips forward and push your knees out, you want your legs under you.

Here's an old video of mine, I copied the form from Marc Bartley(sp?), that spytech uses.

I would hate lifting with plates like that.

the incredible bulk

Form looks pretty good, D. And nice pulling!

But I'm with W8 on this in that you should be more upright for a sumo DL. His form
in that video he posted is spot on IMO.

You want to have your hips as high as you can without sacrificing your arch.
Also, try taking your grip to shoulder width.

looks pretty much the same as my pulling form, more 'semi sumo' than full sumo (which imo is better for training purposes)

p.s. those plates make my pee pee hurt.

1. knees out more
2. you look way to far forward to me (maybe it was the camera angle), you try to pull a max weight youll never finish like that. you need to sit back hard at the start, so your chins are a bit more straight up and down.
3. arch your back more and slam your hips through at the top.

there ya go, that's how I pull mine (I dont reset on full range sumos as the 'dip' on the bottom of each rep overstretches my ham/glute scar tissue)

looks about the same, bar the touch n go so I give you the thumbs up :p

to me it looks like youre much further behind the bar you are on your first rep, chest is up, and knees are out. obviously going touch and go you cant maintain that, but that is just what i see.

Mav, do you have any vids of the guys @ diablo pulling sumo?

How close do you guys line up with the bar?

Halfway- yes those plates suck balls.

Pale- Conv deads were fucking with my back again. It is a reoccuring problem. I am just pretty much sick of it so I am probably switching to sumo permanently. I can't pull as much yet, but my back feels good afterwards so good enough for me.

jeffe1 and jeffe2 and tittus1 (thats me) we were pulling against blue bands. i pull sort of a modified sumo (conventimo as i have dubbed it) but the others are straight sumo.

the ones with the name garret are usually sumo as well.

we always have vids up, so they are constantly rotating. ill see if i can find some others on there.

Your legs should be in contact with the bar. I place the insides of my shins right up against the bar.

ahhhh THAT is probably what is causing me to be not as upright. I am a few inches away from the bar.

Have to try it out next time I can pull from the floor.

i skin myself just as badly on sumos as with conventional, just in different spots so I'm assuming the bar is close enough :o

thanks mav - one comment tho, all you guys have fairly straight legs almost from the get-go, none of you are squatting up the weight in the fasion I've seen some sumo pullers (usually women or midgets with ultra wide stances) go at it. When I try to make it more of a leg push I end up hurting my hips and the bar goes nowhere

do the bands make a difference to the groove you use? (I'm assuming you all pull in suits in contest if going sumo.. I remember exmg getting 100 or so out of his suit when he switched styles last year)

ive never felt the bands affect the groove like it does the squat or bench. i pull conventional a lot as well and pull raw when i pull conventional. i pull in my ace in contests. this is kind of a funny store, in december i pulled 611 in a max dl at a meet. i didnt deload the next week, so 48 hrs later worked up to a triple on box squats, then start f'ing around with my pull. i tried that semi sumo for the first time ever in my max dl and hit 630. said, f'ing lets try the ace and hit 675 then missed 700 at lockout. fairly f'ing ridiculous two days out of a meet. finding the right stance probably got me more carryover than the suit, but the stance allowed me to use the ace...so its a combo of both. oh yeah, i cant pull for shit straight sumo

we all try to keep our shins fairly straight with a little bend over the bar. i use the bar to pull myself down, force my chest up, and go. for me when i get to a max weight if i am out in front even a bit, im done.
