I had a talk with markus ruhl a few weeks ago at a powerlift competition in germany. he told me that flat benchpresses are very bad for you shoulders and elbows. He did flat dumbell presses to avoid getting hurt.
Only barbell presses that he did were 45 degree incline barbell presses.
My current chest workout is as following:
-Incline barbell press
-Flat dumbell press
-Cable cross over
-Flat dumbell fly
What is your opinion about the flat barbell press?

I unfortunatley agree with him. I was having pain in my shoulders about a year ago to the point of getting cortizone shots in them, pretty frquently. I switched from doing barbell to dumbell presses and voila , the pain slowly went away.
Its probably a personal thing, but yes for me, and probably a lot of people, doing flat barbell presses evetually lead to shoulder damage.

I think alot of it also has to do with (if you are not already inclined to injury) overtraining. I know that when I did typical high volume routines I had shoulder problems. Since then, on a HIT style routine, I have set my PB and my shoulder has completely healed.
